Michael, a server from Houston, Texas, shares a story of how he was surprised when some ethnic ladies tipped him, like bosses!
Hey guys my name’s Michael and i’m just your average college student trying to make ends meet through waiting tables at the local restaurant chain. Sometimes as a waiter you can tell what sort of tip your about to get, but there is always that one-in-a-million genuine happy-go-lucky slap yo’self silly guest that walks in, blows your socks off, then walks out smiling. And if you haven’t guessed it already…i love those people.
Last Father’s Day I was waiting tables and it began to get pretty busy, I had 5 tables and I just got sat with a 4 top. It was a small group of 3 hispanic ladies and 1 Hispanic dude. Everything went well, everything came out on time, drinks stayed full, ect. But I noticed these guys were all unusually nice…I brushed it off and figured they were just nice people and i would probably be tipped average.
They split the check, the 2 ladies split an entree and their bill was about 17.00, the other 2 folks each had their own entree and their bill came out to about 35. I gave them both their checks and said “Thank you and i hope you have a great evening” (it was noon). Minutes later I walked by the table and both groups handed me the check billfolds back and said “Thank You for the great service.”
I noticed that the 2 Hispanic ladies had paid with cash so I told them “Ill be right back with your change.” They then told me to keep the change so I figured they gave me a twenty or something, I thanked them and headed towards the computer to type in the tips. When I reached the computer I opened the billfold containing the credit card first and noticed their tip was 6.00, I was pleasantly surprised at the nice tip. Then I opened up the billfold containing the cash payment for the 2 ladies bill of 17.00 and saw a 100 dollar bill.
Tonight, I actually got a 25% tip from a black man. No bullshit.
Here’s the catch, though–he was one of the rudest, most inconsiderate customers I’ve ever had.
He comes in with a group of four women–two Hispanics, and two White women.
I get them their first round, of drinks, and everybody but the Black orders. We’ve got an all-you-can-eat shrimp deal going, and everybody orders that. He tells me that he has to go to Walmart “real quick”, and splits.
Everybody eats, and everybody gets three refills on their fucking shrimp. An hour and fifteen minutes passes…and, 45 minutes into their meal, I get cut for the evening–as soon as they’re done, I’m done too and can go home.
He finally shows up, and wants to order. Dinner. And, this fuck is eating like the Somalians are in Dayton. Add another hour to their meal. Even though the broads have eaten, and gotten dessert, and are literally YAWNING now (and so am I), we’ve all gotta wait until this fat fuck is done eating. He liked to hear himself talk, and he’s even fucking making these grand kind of gestures with a shrimp in his hand–one of the most pathetic things I think I’ve ever seen.
After he’s done eating, he sits and digests for a half hour. Then, he starts ordering refills. Apparently, he’s interpreting “all you can eat” for “all you can take”…so he’s getting lots of seconds and thirds that he doesn’t even touch so he can get something to go.
In the end, it’s seperate checks…and he leaves me five bucks on his $19.60. The girls leave 20%, right on the money.
I never thought that little gimp bitch was ever going to shut the fuck up so we could all get the fuck out of there…
This is the second, “You fascists–minorities actually tip very well!” stories in less than ten days.
It still doesn’t change the fact that 85% of all minority tippers tip for shit, folks….

I never had a problem with Latinos.
It’s not like they’re Canadian.
Ha! Come live in the southwest (along border)! There’s some good Latino tips, like this gentlemen received above, but we see them as most see African-American tips. Even the Hispanic servers dread it. I guess it’s their culture but it’s really frustrating. Some, like I said, are more educated in the etiquette in tipping–most are not.
Give them the same service as you would anyone else, but it causes lack of moral to do so when it happens so frequently to so many servers of all skin tones.
