I swear. When I first started waiting tables, I heard about how black people don’t tip. I didn’t believe it until I experienced it for myself. I have waited tables at three different restaurants in the past few years and it’s the same at each place. Black people don’t tip.
It doesn’t matter if you’re white or black or any other color, you’re most likely not getting a good tip. most often, I see $1 per person. If it’s a 4 top and the bill is $100, the tip will be $4. That’s accurate unless two of the people are children, then you’re getting $2 tip.
Because I give everyone a fair chance, this still hurts every time. Sometimes the table will be as sweet as can be, then tipped me the standard $1/person. I don’t see how something is racist if it’s true. Ask black people who wait tables. If they’re honest, they’ll tell you they know this to be true as well.
I’d just like to know why black people don’t tip. If you’re black, and you don’t tip, why not leave a comment on here.

P.P.S. This happened as recently as yesterday. We have an all you can eat rib special….the worst promotion ever. I will run back and forth for a table, refilling sweet tea and lemonade for an hour, even 2, as well as running plates of food, extra napkins, and dirty dishes, and still get no tip or a $1/person.

I worked as a server for 4 years in Hawaii a little while back. It was all around decent money really.
Blacks did not tip well most of the time. They always asked for extra helpings of ANYTHING that was free (salad dressing, cheese, condaments, ANYTHING) and they would ask if what they are asking for was an extra charge. They are notorious for trying to get their food for free too.
I have had several black co-workers who would roll their eyes when they would get sat with black people. They knew exactly what to expect every time. Unfortunately almost every time they were right, a lousy tip no matter what.
Now let me say this: My FIRST TABLE EVER at the 2nd restaraunt I worked at was a large table of blacks that just got out of chruch. It was a pastor and some family members. Let me tell you, all but 1 of them were rude, demanding, wanted as much ranch dressing and condaments that they could get because the were no charge, and they never touched the extras at all. They wanted them just to have them. BUT…
Out of the 20 people that were at that table that made my life hell on my first day and first table ever, there was one sweet woman, with two kids, that were not well behaved and required a lot of attention. On her way out she took me aside and stuffed a $20 bill in my hand ( her check for her and her two kids was about $40) and she told me this “Heny thank you so much for taking such good care of us, especially my kids. You did a great job”…
It brought me back to earth, people. Out of the 20 people on that table there was one who tipped me way above what was fair. She saw and appreciated the work I had done.
From that day I made sure I always did my best to take care of EVERYBODY that sat at my table. Because if anybody was going to five me a shitty tip it sure as hell was not going to be because of poor service. If I got a shitty tip it was because they were cheap assholes, or really had no idea about the tipping system.
There are several stories I have like this one but this is the one that makes the most impact. This woman felt that she needed to take me aside and hide the fact that she was giving me a huge tip because she did not want other people to see it. She knew she would get harrased by her “people” for doing it. A $20 tip on a $40 check? Thats insane. I made a total of $40 on that whole table because of this woman, she tipped the same amount as the other 17 people (not including the two kids obviously) combined.
It is not fair that she picked up the slack on behalf of her shitty table companions, but she did.
I hope you can all see where I am coming from. While I hated dealing with black people most of the time, if I had treated all of them like shit I would have missed out on some decent tips, and some very decent people.
So while I have not been in the service industry for 6 years now, I will say this:
Lets give these people the best damn service they will EVER get. Let them leave thinking that they will NEVER get great service anywhere else as long as they live. Because at the end of the day, it is OUR JOB as service professionals to give the best service we can possibly give. And if we don’t get tipped its not our faults. We can hold our heads high knowing that we did our jobs; and that the motherfuckers that don’t tip are pieces of shit wont tip no matter what you or anybody else does.
But in any case I got out of the service industry when I was about 24 or 25 years old. I got sick of the job as a whole. I respect a good server, no matter the race, sex, religion. I know you all work hard and have bad days too. I love giving a server a great tip. I met my wife at my last restaraunt, we were both servers and she even says I leave too much as a tip. I say no way. I love leaving 40%. I remember the feeling of getting that big tip once in a while, it can restore a person on a rough day, and really put somebody over the top on a good day. If I cannot do that than I don’t go out to eat. But thats me. I always want to give a great tip to somebody. You never know if they are having a bad day

TIPS = to insure prompt service. If you come back and I remember you do not want prompt service that is what you will get. Tonight 4 tables stiffed me. They will be remembered.
I have the misfortune of delivering food for a pizzeria in my town. First I would like to say that everyone has some racist tendencies, even though I’d like to say that I do not, I have to admit that I myself do have some racist tendencies. Many racist ideas are absurd and unfounded, but some are truly earned. One racist observation that is earned is the fact that black people generally do not tip delivery boys. Whether they’re wealthy or homely, dumb or smart, guy or girl, about two thirds of black people just don’t tip. Occasionally if a non-tipper is having a good day or recently won a scratch-off lottery ticket, they’ll leave you the remainder of the dollar on their order; for example if the order is $48.85, they’ll give you 49 dollars and tell you to keep the remaining fifteen cents, how generous. Otherwise, they’ll either just give you exact or ask for their change back whether it’s three cents or five dollars.
However, It’s not only black people who usually do not tip, Muslims tip less than black people do. Indian people tip even less. Kids NEVER tip. And if you’re fat or ugly, and deliver to a girl in her teens or twenties, she’ll never, ever tip you. Also, old people will tip you a quarter and give you the biggest smile like they’ve just made your day worth working … and don’t get me started on trailer parks.
I live in the south and Im black, and for the most part I will sometimes get bad service when I go out. I always tip, even if the server provides bad service, I just tip less. Some servers carry this stereotype and don’t get tipped because they provided less than standard service (self-fulfilling prophecy). I think it is more of a regional issue than a racial issue. Some black people do not tip but it is unfair to say most do not. Stereotypes like these just make you feel bad about being black sometimes, like when you go to a resturant you have to think about am I going to get bad service because of stereotypes. Why should I be judged for what a couple of trashy black people did? There are trashy black people and trashy white people. Im sure more attention is paid to the black people that don’t tip, than the white people that don’t tip.
To be completely honest, when white people don’t tip, it hurts even more. Black people certainly aren’t opposed to the whole “look out for your own mindset.” That being said, when I have a table of whites, and things go well, I feel rather betrayed by a shitty tip.

What makes you think that only “some” black people don’t tip well? Do you think that the percentage of white people who tip badly is the same as the percentage of black people that tip badly?
I’m just trying to see where you are getting your logic from. I’m sorry that you feel embarrassed, but you need to be objective. If you have never been a server before, then you haven’t encountered enough black diners to really get an idea of how many black diners versus how many white diners leave good tips/bad tips. If you’re just talking from your experience as a non-server, then please remember this: of course if you tip well, there’s a good chance that your experience in your life time is mostly made up of black people that tip decently because that is YOUR environment and what you’re familiar with. However that doesn’t account for the 43,000,000 (43 million) other black people in other communities whom you have never met. You see what I’m saying? Your perception of black diners is influenced and severely limited by what YOU know in your community/circle of people. I’ll tell you that there are not that many black people, percentage-wise, that fall into your category, if that’s the case that you come from middle-class or above. Most black people come from lower socioeconomic upbringings which is what heavily influences tipping behavior.
If, Keyta, you were actually poor growing up and lived in a lower-income area, then that is impressive that you have good tipping etiquette and you are a very rare type. Thank you for following good tipping etiquette. I’m sure you have left many a server pleasantly surprised.
My point to you, and to all other people saying that it’s wrong to say that black people don’t tip well: Please do not look at the tipping behavior of only you and your friends/family. There are 43 million other black people out there. You need to have really researched the statistics, OR have been a server at different restaurants to fully understand REALLY how many black people tip poorly versus how many white people tip poorly. If you don’t do either of these, then you don’t have evidence to back up your complaints and your opinion is extremely skewed by the simple fact that you have not seen as many black diners as servers have. Servers from all over America, in all different classes of restaurants- cheap to expensive- in rich areas and in poor inner-city areas, to pizza delivery restaurants- report that black people do not tip very well- And to sum it up, it seems pretty unanimous amongst industry insiders that MOST black people tip between 0-10%, with the norm being about 5%, and ZERO TIP for pizza delivery. (But we are always very thankful for those black people that do tip well. It is very refreshing and we hope that more black people follow suit so that poor tipping is no longer then norm for black diners.)
It really is too bad that you feel embarrassed about this stigma. I also wish it weren’t so. I like getting decent tips and it hurts me when I work my butt off for a table who ends up leaving me with just a dollar, regardless of their race.

If anyone should be tipped it should be the CHEF! Why would anyone have to tip the waiter/waitress because they CARRY OUT THE FOOD AND BRING DRINKS. It doesn’t matter if the bill was $10-$200 how would that mean give you more money. “Because the plates are too heavy” haha You’re doing your job. You chose to be a servant, so get paid like one. I am sorry but I have to totally agree with the fact that blacks 90% of the time don’t tip or leave a disgusting tip. I work at a fine dining restaurant in LA and we do get the over flow from certain areas – a couple that I gave excellent service to this evening left $3 on $80! REALLY? Its truly gross and a problem. Another couple the other night left $20 on $450.00! While drinking $35 dollar shots of tequila. NO I am not racist my husband is mixed race and I have lots of black friends that say the same about other blacks. Also they will complain the most, run you around (i.e after asking the table if they need a drink/etc you return with the drink then another member of the party says “oh let me get one too” until you have literally gone back and forth 3 or 4 times while being unable to check on your other tables. Yes I agree with other posters they do seem to get a kick out of this. However the real kick is the ass when they leave you a 7% tip.
Being a black female. I can tell you I tip generously. All my friends that are black will tip generously UNLESS when we sit at our table: we can never find you when we need something, you aren’t friendly, and it takes forever for us to get our drinks, food, and check. It is nothing for us to drop a $800 dollar dinner bill for 6 people but if the wait staff sucks we are barely tipping so when the waitstaff gets it in their head anyway that these black people won’t tip and they decide to give sucky service, guess what, I am not going to tip you well. So you as the wait staff gets pissed off at black people. Do your job and you’ll get a tip.

Pizza Hut has delivery drivers because the company offers delivery for pizzas. Restaurants have waiters/waitresses because the company offers a dine-in service. I pay for these services each time I order food-I simply do not understand why these job positions expect a tip. If you do not like the amount of money your employer is paying you-here’s a crazy idea! Find a new job.
In no way are you obligated to any more than the wage you agreed upon when you were hired. You are not providing me a service by bringing me food-the company is providing me a service, and you are accepting a wage to act on behalf of the company. I’m not expected to tip my doctor, and we’d all agree healthcare is a much more valued service. So what makes a waiter so entitled to tips when their non-skilled “service” involves carrying a tray of plates?!
As I’ve said many times, the “non-skilled” service you speak of would provide a drastically different experience for restaurant goers if the “expected” tips were not provided. Picture the ghetto people who work at some of the fast food joints doing a wine service for you, handling your food, etc., as you try to impress a date at a nice restaurant. Those people would be waiting tables if it were simply a minimum wage job. Sorry your cheap ass doesn’t want to tip service industry workers. As I said in my original post- YOU, as a waiter/host/etc… are not providing me a service. The company you work for is providing a service. You, as an employee, are simply acting on behalf of the company. By your logic, I am supposed to tip for this service (regardless of the fact that I’ve already payed for this service). If this “unspoken rule” was true, then I should be tipping your company. You know, the one who provides the service! Self-righteous individuals such as yourself, who believe THEY are are the ones who deserve the tips, completely disenfranchise the rest of the individuals in this society who work just as hard, sometimes even harder. It is insulting to all of them that you can look them in the face and say, “I deserve extra money because I brought your food better than anyone else.”

Pay what you want, but “man up” and let your server know ahead of time that you will not be paying them for their efforts. Then you have a level playing field and you are not just taking advantage of them. FYI – most waitstaff in this country are paid somewhere between $2 and $3 an hour by their employer.
As a server whose job it is to take care of the guests in my restaurant, make sure they have a wonderful experience and receive everything they could possibly want while under my care, I am offended by the ignorant comments being made here. First of all, the restaurant is not running around trying to cater to your every need your server is. Much like a hair dresser rents our space at a salon and pays rent on that space, servers are not just handed money for coming to work, they have to earn it on their own, they are responsible for the amount of money they make, not the restaurant. I work at a fine dining restaurant and make $4 an hour, $4 an houris not enough to live on and I depend on my tips for survival. Another issue that shows me you have never worked in a restaurant is that fact that at the end of the night, I as a server have to tip out my kitchen, server assistants, food runner and bar for their services in helping me to give my guests the best possible experience. I dont tip out on my tips, but on my sales. So if you come into my restaurant, spend $200 on dinner and dont tip me, I am now paying for you to have eaten at my restaurant. I pay my coworkers for your dining experience and in fact loose money from the $4 an hour I make so that you can have a nice night out at a restaurant you obviously couldn’t afford in the first place. If you cant afford to tip someone for taking care of you at a restaurant, you should stay home and cook for yourself because I certainly dont think its fair that your ignorance should affect my ability to pay my rent. I dont care what your skin color is or your ethnic background, everything word in your posts is full of ignorance and hate. Please do the world a favor and avoid restaurants with servers, or maybe try working a service industry job so you can have some empathy for the situations others are in instead of being hateful towards things you dont know the first thing about.
I appreciate the fact that you work very hard to take care of the patrons in your restaurant. I understand that there’s a lot more to waiting tables than meets the eye. What I don’t understand is why it falls on the customer to subsidize your wages. Our money goes to the restaurant, who in turn pay you. When I see you doing well-I am more than happy to let the manager know/write a comment card. Because it is management’s job to ensure you’re being rewarded for your work. Not a customer-the customer didn’t hire you.

I hope you don’t frequent the same places often, because waiters will remember you and they’ll make sure you have an unpleasant time. What does it matter to them if you have a shitty experience? I will attempt to explain the whole “tipping thing” one more time to those who are clearly confused, or think they can somehow justify being the non-tipping arrogant and selfish piece of shit like Toofunny and others have been attempting to do…..
First off…THIS IS HOW THE SYSTEM IS SET UP IN NORTH AMERICA!!!
It isn’t perfect by any means and if you were to deeply analyze it, I’m sure that flaws can be found….
Don’t like it?…Feel free to move to another country, where tipping is not excpected and enjoy the service and the prices…..
If you analyze any system, which is based on long tradition or cultural custom , flaws can be found easily….but once again, this is how the North American service industry model is designed and there are workers within this system who depend on it to run smoothly….
One of the biggest flaws being, that this system is easily exploited by those who are too cheap, too ignorant or those who chose to use these “flaws” as a means to justify being a non tipping piece of shit……
Altough you are an ignorant bunch, you may have heard the saying “When in Rome, do what the Romans do”….in translation this means, that should you find yourself in another country and you intend to stay, you should make every effort to participate in their system of laws and cultural customs instead of being an arrogant selfish piece of shit and trying to make a “statement” of sorts, as to why you are unwilling to do it…..
This is mostly about decency (which you have none) to do the right thing and do what is expected of you…..same way you would say “I’m sorry” when bumping into someone…..there are no laws against having to say it, just as there are no laws saying that you have to tip…..
Howewer by chosing not to do so…..in the first case scenario you might get your teeth knocked out by someone who dosen’t take kindly to being bumped to without a proper apology…..
In the case of non-tipping, you will get what is coming to you, shall you do this at our restaurant when you decide to come back (once again for those of you, whom are not sure what that means read my previous posts)…..

In Europe it is somertimes called a table charge. It would cost you signifgantly more to sit at resturant and eat a meal as opposed to takingthe exact meal to go. they add the service charge into the bill. i actually support this. this would raise the price of the meal all the way around, and then scumbags like you couldnt afford it. you would have to live off McDonalds and foodstamp BBQ’s

Delivery boys accept low wages because of the prospect of tips. In many cases, it’s extremely difficult to find a “better job” in this job market and economy.
In reply to 2funny’s opinion that he/she is paying the restaurant not the server and his/her question about why the server should be tipped:
Pretend that in America the tip IS included into the bill and your sandwich is $9.99. You know that the restaurant adds the cost of paying the employee into the price of your sandwich, just like a retail store covers the cost of paying for their employees into the cost of the clothing. So anyway, Pretend you go out to eat one day and your server is AWFUL. Then the next day you go out to eat and your server is amazing. You’d probably think it’s unfair that the servers are being paid the same yet one sucks and one is obviously working really hard. (Kind of like the problem with communism- everyone gets the same cut and there are no incentives.)
BUT the reality is that in America, the restaurants have NOT accounted for the servers’ salary into the food. Therefore, a sandwich is not usually 9.99. It’s usually between 6.99 and 8.99. NOW, you as the customer gets to give the crappy server a low tip and your total bill is about like $7.50-$8.00, OR you can give the server that was great a good tip and your bill is about $8.50 to $9.99 depending on how generous/kind you are. It all evens out in the end and it benefits you because you are not forced to have to give a standard 18%-20% tip to a server you do not feel is justified to receive it. Would you rather have paid $9.99 even though your service sucked?
THUS, people in America who refuse to pay gratuity just because it’s not on their bill are taking advantage of the system and essentially screwing it up for everyone else by taking their “free ride”. We generally frown on people that do that, no matter where we are.
Therefore, “toofunny”, when you complain that you should not have to pay for the server’s salary, and that you think that it is the restaurant’s responsibility- Well just remember that no matter what you buy or what kind of service you get- car repair, clothing, pharmaceutical drugs, college education, etc.- part of the money you are paying HAS to go to the employee (either immediately like paying the server in the restaurant, or indirectly like paying the professor at college.) It’s just that at a restaurant, since the service is immediate, you get to control IMMEDIATELY, how much that server’s service is worth to you.
When a product you are buying is a service and you see the immediate results of the person delivering the product and you pay at the END of receiving the product- then a gratuity is in order. Hence restaurants, BARBER SHOPS, pizza delivery, dog groomer, and manual car washes. These people are expected to get tips as most of their income. At a coffee shop you go up to the counter to tell the order, you give them the money UP FRONT, and then you TAKE the coffee yourself (whether back to your seat or to your car.) That’s why people at dunkin donuts rely only on their hourly wage, not tips. You pay them up front. (Since it can be stressful and hard work to work at a coffee place, it is generally smiled upon to leave some change in their tip jar, but that’s not the point here.)
Still don’t understand what the point of tipping is? Okay ask this question: What are you paying for? What is your goal/end product?
Auto Repair shop: Is the transmission fixed; yes or no. (Not a place for gratuity.)
Grocery Store: You need to get groceries. You walk around the store toting them around yourself then lug them to your car. (Not a place for gratuity.)
Dog Groomer: Want dog to look good/have a nice style. That is a very subjective opinion. One groomer is great with dogs and your dog leaves happy, smelling wonderful, and toenails cut evenly. Another groomer may not have paid as much attention and the nails aren’t totally even, missed a little dirt on the tail, and maybe the dog didn’t like how the person was unfriendly and your dog leaves in a bad, grumpy mood and misbehaves for the rest of the day. The goal was to have the dog clean. Accomplished? Yes, but HOW clean is the dog? (Yes gratuity situation.)
Auto detailing shop: You want your car clean. One detailer spends a long time just for your car and pays attention to every single detail and even polishes the inside of the glove compartment. Another detailer doesn’t really care because he doesn’t need the job anyway so he just rushes through cleaning your car and didn’t do the greatest job vacuuming as the other guy does. Is your car clean? Yes. but HOW clean? (Yes gratuity situation.)
So either way, ‘toofunny’, you’re GOING to pay for a worker’s income, but only at a restaurant, barbershop, salon, groomers, or auto detailing place will you get to CONTROL how much that person receives.
So people who don’t tip- please start tipping.
And to the person who keeps asking about “what if you servers saw that short people don’t tip” or “what if you servers saw that left-handed people don’t tip.” Well we would probably be upset about that too because it makes no sense. Your irrelevance and pointlessness is appalling. Lol.You are somethin’ else.

I actually started wondering, after writing this reply, ‘hmmm… what if professors’ incomes were part tips?’ Lol. There are certainly some professors that would have gotten NOTHING from me. And then there are some professors whom I would have tipped triple the tuition cost for; just for having been in their class.
Unfortunately, this would never work. Seeing as how there are so many cheap people out there that can’t even stand to part with $8 to tip their server, how can we possibly expect students to have the integrity to fairly contribute to a teacher’s salary? ($200 is a lot more than $8.)Especially if they’re not good students to begin with… (I have a feeling that the students with the best grades would tip the teachers the best… and the students who are flunking/barely passing- well most of them would tip the teacher nothing- and just take advantage of the fact that tuition is cheaper than it used to be and the amount that the teacher gets paid is now in their hands.)Not one kindergartener would ever aspire to be a teacher when asked about his/her dream job and the word ‘teacher’ would have the same connotation that ‘waiter’ has. Good thing educators don’t work off tips.

In principle, it provides some of the same deterrence, as the concealed carry gun laws, since the criminal can no longer be sure who is armed and who is not….the non tipping ignorant blacks can no longer be sure who will get even with them by messing with their food…

I’ve been a server and a bartender for several years. In Mississippi. Blacks either tip poorly or don’t tip at all in most cases, end of story. It’s actually pretty sad. I remember the first table I ever served was an older black couple. I was striving to make a good impression on my managers, the table I was serving, everyone involved, so I made sure to do a super job. This elegant older black couple treated me worse than I have ever been treated in my life. For no reason. He wouldn’t even look at me when I was speaking to him. She would only speak in three to four word sentences, and when I turned to walk away, they both smirked at me. Naturally everything I brought to them was complained about (even a fucking gin and tonic). And (big surprise) they complained so .much their meal and drinks were comped and I got nothing. Trust me this is just one example. I could write a novel about this. Three nights ago in my bar,( which might I add, is an extremely high volume bar where if you don’t know what you want when I make eye contact it might be ten minutes before I can serve you, so get it together) I had a group of young black people bogart my time for almost thirty minutes. Everything had to be a certain way. Vodka cherry sour with no ice, a splash of sprite, not too much grenadine, oh and two cherries and an extra lemon. I usually take six to seven drink orders at once, so when I ask the rest of the group what they want, they say they don’t know. By the time I get this one drink made, they are all ready and want the EXACT same thing. More napkins, less ice, more fruit, accusing me of not giving them the right change. Christ. I could go on and on. I got tipped two dollars on probably fifty dollars worth of drinks and shots. They came in again last night, and I refused to serve them and I told them exactly why. Fortunately in my bar I’m allowed to do so. I really do think its a western civilization/urban-southern culture thing, because when I serve black customers from the UK and south Africa, its a total different story. I think most black people feel entitled and expect to be catered to. I hope the slavery comment above me is a joke by the way. Get over it. My mother is Jewish and my dad is full blood navajo Indian and they don’t bitch about the atrocities that happened to their families and ancestors. I seriously had a table of black people that announced loudly that they “didn’t want no damn white girl handling they food.” I’m. Not. White. Who the fuck is racist now?

I was a server at a sushi place (didn’t get many blacks there XD, they mostly just came for the shrimp tempura) and the tips I got from blacks were subpar. I wouldn’t say really bad but the worst of the lot. Though the indian students from UPenn gave them a run for their money. To all the blacks out there, don’t be mad, don’t call it racism when it’s a mathematically measured fact. Numbers don’t lie. As a server all your pay comes from tips so these servers have every right to be upset when you’re working hard, being pulled in 10 different directions at once and you’re left with a $1. You kinda just wanna break down and sob softly while saying “I did my best…I did my best.” To Tampafun, I salute you for saying what you did because ghetto pieces of trash suck. Having lived in North Philly almost my whole life, I can agree with that statement but will also add that any race can be a ghetto piece of trash. This thread makes me afraid to eat at restaurants. I never realized waiters felt so strongly about black customers. I’m half black and I’ve considered 15% tip to be a bare minimum even with the worst service. However it would seem black people ruined my chances at good services from many of you. I don’t blame you, I would probably do the same if the roles were reversed. I’m just frustrated that my experience might be ruined by the niggardly majority.
There is no excuse for these blacks to behave this way so I won’t cite history or ignorance as an excuse. I’m aggravated by “black” behavior on a regular basis from my own cringeworthy experiences. But please, don’t spit in my food. After reading this, I expect poor service and inattentiveness, but don’t ruin the food. As long as food is on the table (I don’t even care if it’s not hot) you did your job and I will pay you.

I’ve waited for a long time and I’ve had some black families tip me very well, then I’ve had ghetto families work me into the ground only to leave me a dollar on 80 dollar tab. I think it is a mentality of some groups that they feel like they shouldn’t have to pay for anything or whatever.
On another note, I had a black dude tip me 37 cents once on a 40 dollar meal. I let this slide off my back, because well this happens. The kicker of the story though was he was in the food service industry too, he worked at a Burger joint with a tip jar. I decided to go to the Burger place to get a meal when I saw the guy that just stiffed me a few days prior working the register and taking the orders. I doubt he recognized me, but after I got my order to go I pulled out a five dollar bill and acted like I was going to slide into the jar, then I said out loud “I don’t think I afford to do this because some dick tipped 37 cents a few days ago.” He then remember who I was as I walked out.
I checked my food for pubes and spit before I left just incase.
That was a nice comeback with the tip jar at his work. I approve!

I was a waitress many years ago, and early in my tenure, I waited on a black tour group (25 or so) in a chartered bus. The driver was a white man. That group worked me to death. They were nice, but when they left the only tip left was 50 cents from the driver who ate nothing but did drink several cups of coffee. At the time, that was a 100% tip. I was shocked and said something to one of my more seasoned coworkers who assured me that blacks never tip.

OK this is going to go somewhat off subject, but deals with some of the rants regarding racism, slavery, oppression etc. . .For one, I do not condone any of it. I agree it was and still is a horrible thing. That being said, I can’t take it anymore and these are my thoughts.
I truly wish that we could go back in time and allow Africans to come to America free and clear of slavery. . . and I’m willing to bet that without slavery and segregation, black people would be no different than they are right now (from an economic and ethical standpoint). You’d have the respectful black people who like any other race, decide to get an education and better themselves. . . The theme here seems to not direct the non-tipping issue towards all black people, but mainly the GHETTO ones. I do find it hilarious that so many ghetto black people rant and rave about how they should be provided quality service and they shouldn’t have to tip etc. . .well I can say that the majority of times when I go to a fast food drive thru, I’m greeted by (usually female) the most uneducated ghetto black person. They can barely pronounce the menu items. They rush you through the order and then when you get to the window, you are greeted with an eye roll and a no look pass of your typically wrong order. Usually without so much as a thank you. . . Now I’m willing to bet that these are the same trashy people who demand top notch service at restaurants . . . and fail to tip properly or at all.

I was wondering if poverty was the main common attribute of the people ‘Tampafun’ labels as ‘ghetto’? Poverty is a solvable problem. Education is a solvable problem. But if people dislike an ethnic group per se, then I can offer no solace to them; only a concern that they are doomed to gnash their teeth complaining impotently on the Internet that they are offended by someone’s genetics. Being poor is NOT an excuse. I was poor as hell. My parents were extremely poor growing up. My mother grew up literally in a house made of mud with 10 others family members.If that’s not poor, I don’t know what is.
Oh education is the issue.I grew up going to school where I was the minority amongst predominantly blacks and latinos. This was the case from elementary until I graduated from high school. So clearly the same education opportunities are available.
My father wasn’t educated beyond high school and my mother was not very educated at all when she came to the United States, yet learned the most she could. I didn’t use my parents or their poor upbringing as an excuse to not become educated. . .

The majority of commentors on this website are irritated at the difficult job of being a server. I get it. A small percentage are angry enough to attack people by race. This is surprising in the 21st century where sterotypes are debunked constantly. Surely, in your lifetime you’ve seen Black olympic swimmers, Black conservatives, Black golf players, Black Astronomers., a Black Harvard educated President of the United States. For every stereotypical ‘ghetto’ person, I can count 100 Bill Cosby’s or 100 MLKs. Someone tell me how someone’s physical attribute or something as dynamic and broad as culture could influence tipping behavior? How could the violent commentary found on this website increase tipping revenue? It occurs to me that this tack is neither cathartic nor productive. Are you suddenly happy after you rant? Is there some Black spokesman taking your collective feedback back to Black people headquarters? If so, I’m still waiting for the memo. I’ll continue to provide some modern information to dispel and debunk elaborate justifications of plain old bigotry. If you are constantly going to be on the subject of racism, then I’ll say this: The worst racists I have ever encountered were black people. They mostly were racist toward white and Hispanic people, but occasionally they would say the most vulgar things about Asians either in public or directly to me/ make the rudest racist comments to me that I just couldn’t even believe my ears or eyes. I have felt more racism from black people than from all other races of people I’ve met, combined. And that says a lot because black people still only make up 14% of the population. Logically, I should hear less racism from black people because there are less black people. Sadly, not the case. I am a waitress and I was a valet for 3 summers in South Florida, and I never got a decent tip from a black person, as a waitress I hate getting them, our hostess knows to spread them out so not just one person is damned to be shafted. I also wait on black nfl players and they are the worst, cheap, uneducated and nasty.

At my restaurant, we give everyone a benefit of the doubt….even to the blacks….
We remember the offending ones and we take it out on their food….the owners are on board with this, as they don’t want blacks to come to their restaurant anyway…..
They back us up 100%….Just the other day I had a notoriously non-tipping black women complain and “threaten” to stop coming to our restaurant….I kindly replied, that she should go right ahead and I even suggested a few places off the top of my head….
She became furious and demanded to speak with our manager….He politely told her, that if she dosen’t like our restaurant she is free to go elsewhwere and that we are fully supportive of her choice to do so….
She left and so far she hasn’t been back (she is someone elses problem now, which is excellent)…..We won….
Based on my personal experience, the best way to get them from coming back is to take a hardline and call them on their BS….They are only strong, when they know they won’t be challanged…..prove them wrong….
These people are generally very ignorant and is fairly easy to destroy them with intelligent, yet polite reply….
Our goal as a team, is to stop the non-tipping blacks from coming back by either offending them in a subtle and polite manner or purposly giving a bad service….

When I attended college, then graduate school, I was always struck by the irony that my most racist classmates still came to me for answers and coursework explanations. Perhaps they considered me an exception. I was not able to allay their future employment fears however. Ironically, since my race was so woefully statistically under-represented, their actual competition for the choice jobs overwhelmingly came from other White, male applicants. Some thought I received preferential treatment because I had received a scholarship that lowered the financial burden on my Professor’s research grant. Irony: My Professor said it allowed him to support another White researcher he would otherwise not have taken on.
“Dave” implicates himself and his management by admitting cowardly, unethical, unsanitary and illegal acts. I say this is cowardly behavior because it isn’t transparent. Why not make it plain to all potential customers that the staff has authorization to taint your food based on retributive criteria that THEY establish. Would you trust them? I challenge “Dave” to place his post on a sign out front of his establishment. I think the restaurant name should be revealed as a community service. I work at a restaurant in southern illinois, which isn’t too far out from east st louis. If you have not heard of east st louis, there are people murdered there almost daily, the buildings are trash, its all ghetto/drug filled. So back to my point, at my restaurant kids eat free .. ALL day every day. So you bet people will come in with their 8 kids and they will all get water. This is when you know you aren’t getting a tip .. My restaurant eliminated gratuity some time ago because the black people kept calling corporate saying they will not come back to the restaurant because they feel they ‘shouldn’t have to tip’ .. I remember specifically a fellow server had a birthday party of 20 black people (the majority being children) and they left him a $5 dollar tip .. And thats all he got because we do not have gratuity. It took three servers over an hour to clean up the mess they made .. all for 5 measly dollars!! The other day I had a table of 8 black people and they spent a total of $104.. I received a four dollar tip. Even though they said I was “the best server they ever had” Does that make any sense? I think the problem with black people and tipping is that they have just learned from their relatives that one or two dollars is a good tip. I am not racist, and have no problem with black people outside of waiting on them. There are only about 4 or 5 black servers at my restaurant and you can ask any one of them .. and they will tell you that they HATE serving black people because they will not get a tip.
yea, everything the other 100 ppl wrote. reality – black or white; no tip = cold food. i would never spit on food, but i can assure you i have wanted too many times, and this is why i take numbers. If I know you dont tip I will wait for other food to deliver while your food sits in the trunk of my car, you wont get your food until its convenient for “me” to deliver it. I dont care if im 2 blocks away from your house you aint getting your food until the end of my shift when i dont care.

A lot of interesting responses. I think it comes down to demographics and the unfortunate fact that most blacks in the US are low-income which then correlates to being less educated. They are just ignorant.
I recently moved to a very diverse city (probably 50% black) and am experiencing that tragic reality as a server. As the new guy my coworkers warned me to be lucky to walk out with 10%. They were right and some nights its less. Sure Im getting some good tips but im literally being STIFFED by what seems to be the mostly black clientele.
I did not go in with the attitude that blacks wont tip me therefore give them lesser service. I went in treating all tables equally as I always have and this was still the case.
I have had a few black tables tip me quite WELL.. but far and few between.
I think as a server I can tell based on their attitude whether they will tip. Especially when they ask if we charge for water! you know what to expect from that LOL.
As for the debate on whether to tip or not; Its called the SERVICE industry for a reason. Go to a non-tipping country and you will get ONE drink during your entire night and expect to wait 45min to receive your entree. We live in the US and we expect a high level of service, pay for it!
I agree with some of your post, but then you kind of blow it in the first paragraph.
“Ignorant” would imply that the fore-mentioned low-income poorly-educated shitty-tipper doesn’t know what gratuity is. As you can see from many servers’ accounts of their experiences, some of these customers will even go so far as to call up the corporations and demand for gratuity to be taken off of their policy. Far-be-it for them to “not know” that tipping exists. Oh, they know, alright.
If you’re talking about ignorance in the sense that low-tippers are ignorant to the justification of rewarding good service and why it should be done, well then that’s called something else. It’s called ARROGANCE, the incredibly distasteful kind. Calling it “selfishness” or (“ignorance”) would be giving too much credit.

In my experiences, Asians (Chinese, especially) tip very well. I had some people from Romania the other night who tipped really well on a big check full of steak and wine. They were also polite as hell. I can’t say I’d be able to spot a Persian person.
Someone is mad with their life. And should be your a Waiter. You do what we tell you to do and then don’t get a extra dollar for it. I just found this thread after googling the same question because I got stiffed sooo bad today by a table of 9 adults with 2 kids, all black, the bill was over $200, they took up four tables in my section for almost three hours and left me nothing. I am F-ing mad!
First off, I am black. Let me just get that out there. I always tip, because my mom always tipped, and that’s just how I was raised. HOWEVER, my family owned a small restaurant for 30+ years before I was born so maybe that made a difference? I dunno. I currently work as a server in a busy chinese restaurant, and we get lots of customers from all races. I am extremely hardworking, and no matter how nasty a customer is, I am always kind. You never know if somebody is having a terrible day, or if they got cancer, or if their dog died or whatever. There is one other waitress there and shes white, and one of the sweetest people I know. This place is busy, full service and buffet and we bust our butts, no bus boys or cashiers, we do everything but cook and wash dishes. We get paid $4/hr plus tips. FOUR DOLLARS. and that’s really good compared to most waitress base wage in this area.
I have worked here for almost three years and have only once gotten a tip from a black customer. The men are usually really nice, still don’t tip but are nice at least, but the women treat us like DOGS, very rude and pushy, complain about EVERYTHING then come back and eat every week. I don’t understand it at all. Sometimes I think they try to be as rude as possible so you will be rude back, and they can justify not tipping? I mean why be demeaning to your waitress? It’s NOT a racist thing because they don’t tip me OR the white waitress. They just don’t tip. I am at this website because I typed “why don’t black people tip” at Google. The reason I decided to is because it is the same in pizza delivery and we all know it. With the exception of a few generous cutomers, black neighborhoods get their deliveries last. It doesn’t matter if it’s first or last, we often have to make a second trip anyway because something is always wrong with the first order. And I still tip black people because they do a good job, despite the assholes that are pissed about being “black” that stiff me.
They never want to pay a cover or follow dress code. They are the last ones to leave at bar close. If they do leave a tip it’s by accident because they are drunk or cannot count change. Well.. I tip pretty well. Probably because in my youth I worked as a skycap at O’Hare Airport. I can concur that I make a point of addressing my server to establish the “Please don’t blow me off and ruin my evening because you’d decided you’re not getting shit out of this” connection. I am black.. and I’ve both witnessed and received the “blacks don’t tip” theory. I would also add that whites of a certain class level and Indians are snug in the top of that list. Suffice to say I’ve taken time to teach my offspring what to tip.. what’s appropriate and what’s not.

I’m a waiter…as a matter of fact I just got home from working on New Years Eve a few hours ago. I’m just going to say a few things here….1st…how do you think a waitress/waiter makes their living??? By law, the restaurant HAS to pay them minimum wage for the hours worked (at least in Illinois)…but that doesn’t add up to anything…most of my hourly checks have a big VOID printed on them. 2nd, the server has to tip-out a percentage of either their gross-sales or tips to their busboy, food-runner, and bartenders…normally around 5% total…so if a server gets stiffed on a tip they can actually LOSE money by taking care of a table…and lastly, if u think that because someone is serving tables they’re a lesser person than you, well…YOU try and serve tables then…just dont expect any of your co-workers to help you when you ask for it in the 1st 5 minutes…show some respect and appreciation…it’s a new year after all!

just today i got a 21 dollar tip on a 34 dollar check from a black man. not all blacks dont tip. but you can for sure tell the ones that wont tip you good or at all before you even get to the table
I actually can’t tell which people aren’t going to tip well. I can tell you most of my really good tips have been from black people. I can also tell you my worst tips come from black people and middle-aged women.
I was a pizza delivery driver in college, and I would say that 90% of black customers did not tip. If it was a college student it would be an exact-amount check almost every time. If it was a poor person it would be cash counted out to the last penny. I was also paid out of a “gangsta roll” of probably five thousand dollars by an obvious drug dealer who demanded his change back down to the penny.
so i work at a casino in the south doing valet. me and another guy did a study. 3 categories, asian, black, and white. every time we got a car, we made a check by the race and wrote down the tip. and just for fun ignorant comments, we dont park in a garage, so, when it rains its lovely, especially when its cold…anyways, after 3 months the average tip from an asian was 2.08, white was 1.94, black was .49 cents…..and that included 1 black guy that would come every week and give atleast 4 of us 20 bucks a piece for a single visit. most blacks should always stare at the ground in shame and just eat mcdonalds and not go anywhwere if MOST people tip at those places. IMO, if i never see a black person at work again, in the long run, which is only 1 foot, i will make alot more money and do alot less work. by, the way, my wife is black and she was fine with me posting this
Unforunately, it’s true in most cases. I’m black and a server and I know what it’s like. But I do have CHEAP..ASS..FRIENDS (who are black) and they will do whatever they can to avoid leaving a tip. If there are multiple checks at the table, usually there will be a discussion of how much each person is leaving in a tip. LIKE WHY TF DOES IT MATTER IF YOU RECEIVED GREAT SERVICE?
Multiple checks ALWAYS suck for tips, regardless of race. (pizza biz, anyway). We finally got my cheap ass, white uncle to tip!!!
I work at a gentlemens club in Milwaukee. Not only do the Canadians not tip the bar tenders, they refuse to tip the topless girls! Of course they try everything in their power not to pay the $10.00 cover at the door. One Canadian tried to pay the cover with his Quest card!(food stamp charge card).
It’s gotten worse, now the mud sharks(white woman w/ low self esteem who only date blacks) don’t tip.

In my experience, I only discovered a couple of years ago that 10% wasn’t the standard tip. (I only found out because a character in a play I saw happened to refer to 10% being a bad tip.) I know it is possible, therefore, to be clueless that 10% (or any other amount) wasn’t a good tip.
However, it would be obvious to anyone that you should treat a waiter with respect. Nobody could be clueless about that.
Rough thread! I’m black (and latino), Male, and have discussed this topic with many friends of mine in the industry. I worked in the food service in high school and have many friends still in the industry. I’ve always brought up the topic by saying to a group of friends: “so, why don’t black people tip?” it’s always met with a universal “yeah, what is it with that?!” From our limited experience, in my state, CT, we’ve come up with the simple fact that there are practically NO minorities in the service industry. Without fail every time either I or my friends have gone out, we’ve been able to count on one hand how many restaurants or bars had even one minority server over the course of almost a year! We chalked it up to unfamiliarity with the industry and like anything else, how can you be expected to know something about an area you aren’t familiar with. Dining out is no exception. Where my friends and I worked, all of their and my regulars were white. It seemed going out was a matter of course for whites as opposed to most blacks who went out for special occasions. Like going to church and tithing once on Easter and once on Christmas as opposed to every Sunday, thus gaining a real understanding of going out, knowing your servers, and knowing how to tip appropriately. Granted my perspective is unique, I grew up in an all white neighborhood, have mostly white friends and my school was only 30% blk and other races, so I believe that had a hand in following the crowd towards being a waiter through high school which I can assume is NOT the trend at a school thats predominantly black. One thing that does aggravate me in this thread is TannerBoyle. Granted he had bad experiences I believe having his attitude is a bigger problem than non tipping patrons. With an all white clientele you losing something more important than money, and as far as cleanliness, I have had an all white clientele and can tell you everyones kids trash the table. Families with small kids are the worst but that’s the job, it’s the one place where mom doesn’t have to clean up after everyone so the table and the womans bathrooms are are always destroyed and disgusting at a restaurant!

Tanner, that’s your “truth” based on your experience. Everyone on here would be remise to simply think melonin dictates tipping, it’s scientifically impossible. The problem is the socioeconomics of the oligarchy we live in, period. To expect marginalized people of any race to have a perfect grasp on our little world of the service industry is classist at best. “Going out” for a member of a marginalized population is “extra” and i’m assuming even if they knew what appropriate tipping was, and in most cases i dont think they do…i would believe they would consider it to be even more “extra.” For the life of me I can’t believe what I’m reading on this thread, to have an expectation of money (sounds more like a psychological demand from most on here) from the people least likely to have any, is what? Is the solution for them not to go out? To say to people, simply endure your marginlization with no reprieve because you don’t know how to tip? It’s not our business to question “why” because in our profession we know the possibility of getting stiffed exists regardless of the persons color. It just looks like on here, people are madder when it’s a minority, when it should be the other way around.

You guys probably have noticed that I haven’t been around for a while.
Well, here’s why–a little over a month ago I took a job in my own neighborhood at a place that’s basically one step up from a bar and grill.
The clientelle is almost 100% white, as is the FOH staff. At the last place I worked, about 2/3 of the clientelle were minorities, and I was the only White Male in the FOH staff.
And you know what? I haven’t received one complaint in that time, about myself or anyone else. There have been no complaints about the food, either. Nope. There have been no attempts to get anything comp’ed. Everyone behaves themselves, and the tables aren’t trashed…even when we have little children eating at them.
Oh, and the tips are ALWAYS at least 20%…but are usually in the 20% to 30% range.
I’ll never work in a place that has a large black clientelle again ever. Unless I go back to jailing, that is…
Tipping is strickly VOLUNTARY!!!!!!!! I never tip, why should I, no one tips me at my job. As far as I’m concerned, the tip is already included in the cost of the food! If someone has a wage problem, that needs to be addressed by the employer. I expect servers and restaurants to provide excellent service, food, etc without a tip or bribe. That’s why the food is so much more expensive than if you cooked it at home – BECAUSE ALL OF THE OVERHEAD IS ALREADY INCLUDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To this day I have never received or given a tip! Then you’ll definitely want service industry jobs to pay a fair hourly wage or you’re going to be waited on by trash. How “fancy” would you think a $100+ dinner for two would be if you were waited on by someone who was working for minimum wage?
Not to mention the fact that the “$100 dinner for two” would be at Denny’s because of the over-head involved…
American society and economics is not set up to support not tipping service industry workers…..especially those who make $2.13/hour. How hard is this to understand?

You should watch “Waiting.” We chose this job because the average person does tip, but don’t like wasting our time and patience on some pompous jackass that will run us around for zip. Also if you don’t get tipped you probably don’t work in service and or get a regular hourly wage. You ignorant people make me sick yes it is our job and we will do it well, but you have no idea how the dollar or restaurants work we get 1/3 of minimum wage so in turn your food is around 25% cheaper. One more thing, I hope you don’t go to the same place stiffing servers. Most of us avoid tables like you and I’ve seen some nasty spiteful people Olin my time.

You do realize that if the servers were paid more to avoid customers having to tip, your meals would be way more expensive than you already claim them to be. . . Rich, you’re right. Tipping IS voluntary. It’s something you as a customer should want to do if you appreciate the service you were given. It’s something you should do if you want to continue to get that same great service in the future. But here’s how I see it: Tipping is something you go out of your way to do, just as the server went out of his way to make your dining experience as enjoyable as possible. If the server (who barely makes a livable wage) knows you’re not going to go out of your way, then why should he go out of his way for you? Also, for your sake, I hope you don’t frequent the same restaurant with that “I don’t tip” mentality. Waiters and waitresses tend to remember people who run them ragged and don’t tip. Trust me, they have ways of getting back at people like that.
It is voluntary. So is saying “bless you” when someone sneezes, holding the door for someone who is behind you, or saying please and thank you because you have manners. These are all cultural customs that NO ONE is obligated to abide by but you can guarantee you’ll be met with some ill feelings or bad looks if you stray from it or are perceived as having no manners. Like these things, tipping is also a customary practice that differs from country to country, culture to culture. You are informally expected to leave a tip when you dine out and are served by a waitstaff just like you are informally expected to have the decency to say please and thank you when someone does something for you. Get your head out of your ass.

That’s exactly the reason I tip everyone extremely well. If I go to the bar I never have to wait more than a couple of minutes to order a drink. Bartenders have skipped over a line of at least 5 people to wait on me. I have also received many a drink “on the house”. When I order delivery, my pizza is nearly always delivered within 20 minutes, no matter how busy they are, hot and fresh.

When I lived in Texas it was more true than not that black people tended to not tip as well. Then again, most people in a lower-income bracket – regardless of skin color – failed to tip well.
I now live in an area of the country where the income demographic is a bit more even. While I’m weary of stereotypes, I’ve noticed that black people in this area tend to tip BETTER than their white counterparts.
The way it generally breaks down is by income bracket. The super rich will tend to tip less (if it’s at a chain restaurant), the middle class – upper middle class tend to tip the best, regardless of skin color. The lower class just don’t tip.
The one exception I’ve run into is if you are dealing with middle-aged to older white women. If they’re out in a group, or just two of them, they simply don’t tip. Across the board, men tend to tip better than women. While that’s not always the case, it does seem to be the case quite a bit.
Bullsh*t pal. Yes there are exceptions for everything but the fact of the matter is at least 80% of black people don’t understand what the word TIP means. If you’re against tipping there is an easy solution…DON’T GO OUT TO EAT!!! Don’t tell me you’re in a lower income bracket when you pull up in your escalade on 22″s, some god awful (yet brand name and quit expensive) clothing,$150 pair of Air Jordans, some hideous, gaudy jewelry and then leave, what in my opinion is what the majority of black people consider a great tip, $5!!!! Not to mention I have seen, on numerous occasions, black people using welfare cards to dine out! Look fact of the matter is not only black people but ALL people need to understand that that server bringing you your food, is making less then $3 an hour in most states!!!
Ditto. It’s a known fact you’re expected to TIP when you eat out. If you’re too low class to leave a tip, your classless butt should dine at fast food joints where tips aren’t expected. Income has ZERO to do with blacks not tipping, as you wrote. Black people always order the most expensive menu items. They always request EXTRA THIS, EXTRA THAT, run service staff around for FREE REFILLS, more napkins and always manage to find a problem, whether created or minute to excuse themselves for being too CHEAP to tip OR TO HAVE THEIR MEAL COMPED. They know full well what they’re doing is wrong otherwise they’d not try and find issues to excuse this classless behavior. They always have wads of cash they love to flash, wear expensive clothes, shoes and purses, but trying to look classy doesn’t mean you are. We see through that. I for one am tired of black people acting racist and trying to turn it around. Many races have been exploited, abused, enslaved (hello WOMEN!) and they don’t take it out on the world and not only expect, BUT DEMAND HANDOUTS. That is pathetic behavior, they should be ashamed to show their faces in restaurants.
Just curious, where did you find this statistic mentioned in your reply “at least 80% of black people don’t understand what the word TIP means.” I would love to see those published study results especially as a black female server who does quite well financially. Not because I am tipped by a particular racial category, but because I have been in customer service for over 17 years and know how to treat a PERSON as a PERSON. I also know the meaning of MAN, WOMAN, and CHILD, thank you, and that is how I see my patrons. I do not see color first and I guarantee you they know this. Sure, I have received awful tips from people from my own race. I have also received awful tips from plenty of other racial groups. The fact is this: whatever I receive for my service is more than I had when I came to work that day. I do not know any of my patrons’ financial situation, but I do know that I only have to do my job. If I start attaching my tip amounts to races and sub-cultures…I have way too much time on my hands and may need to find a waiting position that is too busy for idle, idiotic thoughts where real money is made by excellent servers who know how to make an experience worth a good tip (or a bad one) and not care. Its about how much you love to serve the public. Its not for everyone.

Sorry, but its true…. even the black servers at my work will tell you that. I just thought I worked with some semi racist people in FL until it started happening to me. Now I live in TN and its even WORSE. Yeah and it happens EVERY time. Its not racist, its a true fact. Has happened to me in 3 states and keeps happening. $4 on $100 is NOT ok. Especially when it is 8 people. Service was perfect as it always is. I am not racist in any way, shape or form. Just stating a fact.

Most servers have to tip out a percent of their total food sales, so servers wind up paying for your cheap selves to act like Gluttonous Pigs (and boy do you with your extra this and extra that)!! I could say everyone is just very cheap if u go and spend 100 bucks that you can’t afford to a restrant that u can’t even put a decent tip then why even bothering spending ur money I think ppl just want to be a asshole and some ppl just don’t have alot of money but there are ppl who just don’t know how to tip they don’t realize that tw money that they are getting is what pays the bills yeah tw waiters may get 2.15-2.25 what ever every 2 weeks but think about it it’s not enough alot of these ppl are married and have kids and ppl are just some greedy ppl who don’t appreciate there serves yeah some are bad servers but alot of them don’t mean to be bad attentionaly they are still learning or just started pll just don’t give the Benifit of the. Take it from a black valet- MOST blacks don’t tip. I’m writing this just minutes after being stiffed by a car full of black women with a trunk full of luggage. I smiled, I was polite, I unloaded everything… Couldn’t even give me so much as a ‘thank you.’ Granted, there are exceptions to every rule. Some of the best tips I’ve ever gotten came from one black lady (who happens to be a regular). Aside from her and a few others, I’ve learned to not lift a finger for the vast majority of them. I can’t even tell if they appreciate the service.
Yes there are exceptions. I wish there were more. I’m peeved tonight because I got stiffed by every black table I waited ont and for no reason. Adding insult to injury is it’s obvious they do it on purpose and enjoy mistreating those working hard to serve them. It’s to the point now that I am overcome with a sense of dread when I walk to a recently sat table and find blacks sitting there. Why don’t they care how this is perceived? I am very curious. Perhaps you can provide some insight?

I’m black and I tip EXCEPTIONALLY well. I can have lunch for $12 and it would not be unusual for me to leave $30 on a bad day. I pride myself on being a great tipper. I’m not the kind of guy that even judges you based on the service that you provide. I’m the easiest customer you’ll ever get.
It’s really disheartening to read a lot of the remarks, some are true and some are just a way for those that don’t like blacks to vent.
It’s unfortunate that this is being used as a way to take shots at blacks but nevertheless, I guess I cannot be to surprised.

Made a $45 food delivery to a black person just two days ago. Huuuge house in a prominent neighbor hood. 3 nice cars in the driveway. No tip.
JD, it’s not that ALL blacks don’t tip, it’s just that nearly most don’t. Having been in the food business for many, many years, I can tell you this. If you waited 20 black tables over the course of a week, you could expect 4 to tip. Even if you were one of them and generously tipped $18, that amount (combined with the other 3) would total less than 2% of the grand total bill of all 20 tables. 2% JD. Compare that to what’s supposed to be a 10% to 20% standard.
Unfortunately, your generous $18 tip not only includes the $3 you should have left, but leaves $15 to make up for the next 5 or 6 tables of black schmucks who feel they are too good to tip. Thanks for covering for them.
Just wondering… How much of that $45 dollar meal did you cook? Oh… none? Hmmmm…. Oh… You just brought it to my house? Man thats some hard work!! Hmmm.. It costs MORE for delivery? Oh…. The tip is in the check have a nice night.

You are an exception I assure you. Most blacks don’t tip, and not only that; they are very rude to the staff at restaurants, and very selfish. They run the servers around clearly enjoying it when the server becomes stressed as they struggle to take care of their other guests because their black table wants extra this and that. They will send back perfectly good food or drinks (after eating or drinking most of it) only to demand it be comped. So not only do they stiff the server, they stiff the restaurant as well. Servers tip out a percent of their TOTAL FOOD SALES so when they have to pay for rude people to dine out it’s infuriating. People starve in this world, so how despicable that anyone waste food just to get a freebie or excuse such deplorable behavior. As a woman I’ve been discriminated against plenty – women have been mistreated since the beginning of time. You don’t see us out trying to get things for free and mistreating the public over it. I’m sorry, but just because you tip well doesn’t mean your brothers and sisters do. I never had any of these negative perceptions in my head prior to being MISTREATED AND DISCRIMINATED AGAINST BY NEARLY EVERY BLACK PERSON I’VE PROVIDED GOOD SERVICE TOO!
