I swear. When I first started waiting tables, I heard about how black people don’t tip. I didn’t believe it until I experienced it for myself. I have waited tables at three different restaurants in the past few years and it’s the same at each place. Black people don’t tip.
It doesn’t matter if you’re white or black or any other color, you’re most likely not getting a good tip. most often, I see $1 per person. If it’s a 4 top and the bill is $100, the tip will be $4. That’s accurate unless two of the people are children, then you’re getting $2 tip.
Because I give everyone a fair chance, this still hurts every time. Sometimes the table will be as sweet as can be, then tipped me the standard $1/person. I don’t see how something is racist if it’s true. Ask black people who wait tables. If they’re honest, they’ll tell you they know this to be true as well.
I’d just like to know why black people don’t tip. If you’re black, and you don’t tip, why not leave a comment on here.

P.P.S. This happened as recently as yesterday. We have an all you can eat rib special….the worst promotion ever. I will run back and forth for a table, refilling sweet tea and lemonade for an hour, even 2, as well as running plates of food, extra napkins, and dirty dishes, and still get no tip or a $1/person.
Bayarea, I love you, you guys make sense, I’m actually from Africa, and I’ll tell you what, when I see black folks on the hostess stand, I’ll do whatever it takes to take them away from me, ah I’m racist, hell to the no, the screwed me up, they walked out on checks, hell, what the hell they didn’t do yet, I learned that if I am sat a black folks table, to make sure they don’t take as much time as the other tables do, because it just doesn’t pay off, they ask a million and two questions about the menu, then they ask them questions again, then their kids ask the same questions again, then you make 1$ on a 40$ plate, the economy doesn’t operate like that black folks, wake up, sorry, but they made the french look great when it comes to tipping, and I love it when they shake my hand for great service then they leave me 10$ on a 200$ check, you know what I say then…
Please stay home if you don’t have money to tip.
I am a waitress in Florida. Black people don’t tip. Okay, sure, some do, but the MAJORITY don’t. I think we’ve covered that enough, but I wanted to continue the support.
It really ticks me off when people get so uppity about stereotypes. STEREOTYPES ARE STEREOTYPES FOR A REASON. SOMETHING WAS HAPPENING OFTEN ENOUGH THAT PEOPLE STARTED NOTICING AND CREATED A STEREOTYPE. So, this is to say, that at some point (obviously when the stereotype was created) there were a significant number of blondes who said/did dumb things, there were a significant number of jews who exhibited cheap behavior or whatnot, and just like this one, there ARE a significant number of black people that do not tip. It is not an opinion (calling them obnoxious is an opinion that you cannot actually prove, although I also agree on that point as well) it is a FACT.
There was a man who posted some bs about if you replace “bad tippers” with “low intelligence” and “black people” with “women” it’s the same thing and that’s what kept women from voting, blah blah blah. WELL, IF YOU SAT 1000 WOMEN DOWN AND GAVE THEM AN IQ TEST AND THEY ALL DID POORLY, THEN THAT WOULD BE A FACT, NOT A STEREOTYPE. There are many reasons women had no rights, but I’ll save that for your history teacher.
Many servers work in places where they pay the other employees to help them with the guest’s experience. Not saying this is the guest’s fault and they should tip based on that sole fact, but just know that when your food comes out wrong and you don’t leave me a tip because of it, THE COOK IS STILL GETTING PAID UPWARDS OF $15 THAT HOUR WHILE YOU JUST SCREWED OVER ALL THE PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY DID THEIR JOB. So not only did you just leave me a big “FUCK YOU” but I just also paid partly for your meal, so thanks
Tip your waiter/waitress 20% every single time unless they are truly awful. PERIOD. 15% is bs to me…but hey that’s just my opinion!

“Now, I am a server at a popular Sports Bar/Grill. I’ve only worked their a week and for the first few big tables of black people, they tipped pretty damn well. I had a lot of the other servers commenting that I’d either get stiffed or get a poor tip but I’d come back with a $20 tip. However, the other day was horrible. First, everyone and their mom was tipping poorly, then I had a table of black people come in. First their were 3 of them and they said they were expecting friends.
Suddenly the table grew from 3 to 10 and everyone was ordering left and right. I had other tables but they seemed to expect that I stand by the table at all times. I had previously asked if they wanted seperate checks, but they said “No, we’ll figure it out.” So off I go putting everything onto one check. Then one guy asks for his check. It was really crazy and I hadn’t been back to my other tables in about 15 mins because I was trying to figure out these checks.
I realized I still had 2 items unaccounted for and I figured out it was for this one guy and his girlfriend who kept ordering top shelf drinks. I apologized to them and explained I forgot to add a drink and appetizer to their tab. The girl became a total b*tch and demanded the receipt. I told her that I gave it to them when I brought the check- they paid cash. She then told me she’d been asking for a to-go box but I never brought it; she kept asking for one while everyone was bombarding me with their checks and I kept reminding her that I will get the box when I could. I again apologized brought her the box but she said she didn’t want it, that I took too long, and wanted to know if we had any customer service cards.
This was my 5th day and I wanted to go off on her, but I simply smiled and told her that we did not have any cards. Her boyfriend was a bit nicer and said he wanted the previous receipt since he threw his away. I got my manager and told her what was going on, she printed out the receipt and told me not to worry about them. When I brought the check the girl said loudly that I should give them back the tip they had given me prior, but I walked off pretending I didn’t hear.”
Ok, so here it is because I just learned this about a couple of months ago and I am over 30 and I did not grow up in a rich neighborhood. In fact most of my childhood was spent around other races.
Black people do this on purpose. It is a game that they play in order to throw you off. I was told a story by an older friend of mine about when he was a child his dad told him a story about how black people would come into their store and give him let’s say a $20 bill and then ask for two fives and a ten. Then they would say, “oh you know what, can I get a roll of quotas (uh it’s quarters thank you very much)”. Then they keep doing this over and over until it throws you off and then they get mad and say you gave them the wrong amount, or something is always wrong. So fyi, this is a game that they play to trick you, like everything else they do.
Now with that being said, there are civilized blacks just as in every culture, unfortunately for the most part, most are not civilized at all and lack morals altogether. In fact, I would say that 65% and I am being nice cannot be trusted, lack morals, and cheat and lie every chance given.

This is absolutely 100% true that black people do not tip. When I was young, I was very ignorant and had many black friends until I woke up one day and realized they had morals that was leading me straight to hell. I was told many times by friends of mine or as I called them then “homies”, “why you tippin?”. I am so glad a woke up one day and sold out on every single one of them. And it had nothing to do with not being able to hold my own. I’ll take on anyone at anytime, BRING IT! Take it from me, I know them better than most other white people out there and most of them do not care about anyone but themselves, “hoes and bitches”, and money….period!

Tip your housekeeper. Tip your hairstylist or barber. Tip your mail carrier. Tip your favorite servers. Don’t tip racists.
Don’t tip anyone who needs to rant about people based on race. Don’t tip servers who would adulterate your food based on their misguided anger. Don’t tip bartenders that would water down your drink. It’s called fraud.
Tips should be based upon the quality of service. NOT VICE-VERSA!!
I hear this all the time. A couple of years ago, I took a part-time job delivering pizza. The simple fact is that most blacks don’t tip at all. A very small percentage will tip $1, and an even smaller percentage will tip normally. But 75% of blacks don’t tip at all, and it doesn’t matter if they are poor or wealthy. I have come to the conclusion that even if you can take a black out of the ghetto, you can’t take the ghetto out of the black. I never used to be racist, but now I am. I don’t like being this way, but it is what it is. Apparently blacks don’t think they need to act civilized, like normal human beings. Yes, there are a small percentage of whites who don’t tip, but overall, 90% of whites tip where 75% of blacks don’t. I have come to the conclusion that if they act like low lifes, then they are low lifes. Probably will never change.
Alot of individuals on this site are so sad. The masked racism that you presents at your place of work shows more than you know. It seems that alot of the people on here that work in the food service industry either work at fast food joints that you consider restaurants (Applebees, Olive Garden, Red Robin ect) And as soon as an african american party steps foot in the door you have a preconceived notion that were assholes. I am african american and trust me the individuals who posted on this site have confirmed that it’s nothing that we have done but a racist complex that you have developed before we even order. We can feel your racism and your lack of respect and that makes us not want to tip. When we have to ask several time for the same thing over and over again, when your not smiling and your body language tells us that were not wanted there. When you don’t check on us and we have to approach you and ask you for what we need, All these factors lower your tip and on top of that we feel disrespected and you will get it from us. Here’s a tip your low level food servers… treat everyone with the respect your want and maybe you might get an adequate tip and a smile.

The problem is the majority of blacks simply don’t tip. Again, it’s based on experience. By saying, “it’s nothing that we have done..” is completely invalid. It’s exactly what “we have done”: NOT TIP.
Here is a tip for you. If you are black (this also goes for ANY race but I’m addressing you in this reply), don’t act “ghetto” when you show up to a restaurant to eat. If you act like a respectable person or party, you’ll definitely be treated just fine.

I’m 25. I have been in the industry for 10 years. I have done every job in the industry besides Cook. I am currently a bar tender. Being a bartender means I have the upper hand in this bad tipping situation. If you want to be a cheapo ill just poor your drink with extra ice and mixxer and half the boose. Then I will ignore you. I give everyone at my bar a fair chance to tip well. AND I ALWAYS REMEMBER A BAD TIPPER!
NOW as for the question of race and who is the worse. I’m sorry black folks but you on average suck at tipping.
For example if you and your boy or your chick come to the bar and you get two drinks each. Thats an automatic $4 tip, and thats before you even look at the bill! Then after you look at the bill you can throw on a couple more bucks if you drank something like patron, remmy, or henny. NOW if you come in and have four beers. $4 is cool. But if you drink something that cost $10 a shot be ready to come out of pockett for it son! OR ELSE i will short you next time you come in. And ill ignore you while you wave from across the bar… ya, I see you but your cheap ignorant A$$ can wait. Learn to tip!
I understand you are like everyone else and you like to go out and enjoy yourself from time to time, BUT LEARN HOW TO TIP! Remember these people are handling your food…and you cant see them behind that kitchen door

Heres a little story from a couple days ago. A black gentlemen came up to my bar and ordered a margarita. I poor heavy drinks. Like I said im fair with everyone who comes to my bar. I dont care if your skin is brown, black, white, purple…whatever! SO, i poor him a nice heavy drink. And this A-hole stiffs me. Later on that night he comes back into the bar from the dinning room and orders another margarita. SO, I gave him half a glass full of tripple sec. A tiny splash of tequilla, and topped the glass off with mixxer. He took three sips and left the drink on the bar. THATS RIGHT BUDDY YOU JUST PAID $8 FOR SOME TRIPPLE SEC! NOW GET OUT!

I would like to say, I am not partial. However when I go to restaurants I tip the way I am treated. I am black and so is my husband. My husband used to be a waiter so I do understand the importance of tipping. However, I also understand the importance of good service. If I have to ask you several times for the same thing, your tip gets smaller and smaller. Such a a refill on coffee or water. I don’t drink anything other except a glass of fine wine. I must say I have seen some of the most horrible waiters and waitresses. Please note that not all black people tip horribly. As stated my husband was a waiter himself one time. White people tip horrible too, I don’t know if its because they are racist, which I don’t doubt, but I have seen them myself leave a 2 and 3. dollar tip.
My husband is very well off in life now. And even if the service is not great he leaves a big tip. Me on the other hand, if I feel your service was horrible so your tip will be.
I have worked in food/bar service for thirteen years. I can honestly say that the reason I chose my current place of work because black people rarely go there. For me, I don’t have a problem with the older black people in their 40\’s-50\’s. I have a problem with young ones up to their thirties. They want to pretend like the are Puff Daddy/Diddy and demand to be treated as if they are the genuine Al Capone. They act like the most spoiled useless Americans I have ever met.
Mostly, I don\’t understand why they have to scream bloody murder at me when I make their beverages; they demand a double pour for free, exactly three ice cubes, but they want four if you give them the three they asked for. I think they genuinely enjoy trying to ruin someone’s day. They really cannot be that naive about social graces. Perhaps some of them were raised by wolves.
I cannot count the times I have been stiffed by young blacks or had to cover some of the change myself.
So stop posing as Al Capone. Put up or shut up or stay home

I think what frustrates me most is that even when provided strong evidence that his argument has no foundation, he still dances around the topic and throws the argument back at you without answering a single question you pose to him. He’ll find the one thing in your post that he can respond to without damaging his story and answer only that. Then he’ll go off on a massive block of text on why white people are racist. Andy, stick to the topic on hand. Yes, racism is a valid topic, but just not here. As for stress caused ulcers, well, I guess that topic also has a place on the internet where a debate about it is pertinent, but again, it’s not here. As for this thread, we are talking about why black people choose not to tip. Kindly try to stick to it. The rope-a-dope may work in boxing, but it is a sign of a weak debater when arguing.
