I have waited on a lot of assholes in my time but todays experience topped them all. So around 1 pm today lunch at the restaurant I work at was starting to die down. I only had two other tables when three big fat ghetto women walked in and went to sit on the patio. I could tell by taking one look at them they were gonna be assholes and not tip shit but I made it a point (like I always do) to give them exceptional service so that they could not justify their cheapness.
A lot of the waitresses I work with expect black people to tip like shit so they don’t go out of their way to give them good service. Where is I have had the same experiences but make it a point to try to kill them with kindness, because EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE they will surprise you. Anyway…back to the story. So as usual they could not be satisfied with anything. The coke was flat…which it wasn’t…the catfish was not good…when is catfish ever good?? But here is an idea stop ordering fried food you fat bitch. (Too bad we don’t have watermelon to serve) I had my manager comp their food and cook them new fish…got them a new drink…blah blah blah. All the while being EXTREMELY nice and polite. Honestly if I was a bitch I would admit it.
So, to get to the point, they left after paying with a 100 bill and left ZERO tip. I guess I was having a shitty day and was fed up because something came over me that I could not control. I RAN outside and walked up to their big nice truck and said (very nicely) “Excuse me ladies can I ask you, was there anything wrong with your service today.” One big fat bitch said “Yes there was as a matter of fact”. I said “and what was that?” she said “everything” I said “I don’t think anything was wrong with your service, I think you are just to cheap to tip and if you can’t afford to tip or don’t want to then you should stay home” She said “Fuck you Bitch I will come back tomorrow and the day after that and NEVER tip” I said “No you will not, you will not come back here again” She said “FUCK you bitch” I said “NO FUCK YOU BITCH” and I turned and went back inside. I knew they were coming right behind me.
By this time I was so mad I was shaking…not to mention I thought I may get shanked any second. Of course they come in screaming so loud crazy like it becomes a blur. I went and got our GM and told him the story as fast as I could as he ran to the front. They continued to yell and curse and say they were gonna beat my ass until he made them leave. He gave them the regional managers name and email and told them to get out before he called the cops. The owners were notified and I told them the exact recap of what happened and they totally had my back. They said to not allow those women back in the restaurant. They also told me not to follow people in the parking lot and confront them about not tipping.
I knew I shouldn’t do it when I did it but in that moment I didn’t care. They think because they are big, black, mean bitches. that little white girls wont call them out because we are scared. I say FUCK THAT. I very well could have gotten beaten up, shot, stabbed and who knows they still may come back to get me. But I felt very proud of myself for not letting them intimidate me with their ugly ghettoness! Fuck them.

Just the other day some “Flava Flav” wannabe walked into our restaurant with a suit, vest, tie, the church gear. He acted like a pompous asshole the entire time, blabbing on his cell phone & yelling “hey” each time he needed something. He made THREE trips to the salad bar, bitched that there wasn’t enough fruit on it, then ordered a chocolate cake w/ice cream, after which he said he was diabetic (can you say MORON?). When I left the check he asked if I gave him a discount for that “nasty” salad bar. “oh, I’m sorry, you mean the one that you helped yourself to THREE times?” This dude was a Grade A, typical poser asshole. I told my manager that I was about to punch the bling clear out of his mouth & that I was NOT going back to that table. He paid with a $100 bill, and yep, you guessed it; no tip. When he was leaving he pretended to slip & fall on what he called a wet floor. I’m sorry, but this guy clearly wanted something for nothing, like MANY (not all) black people. It is a harsh stereotype, because not all blacks act so indignant; heck I know of many white trash guests who don’t tip, either. Unfortunately blacks get the short end of the stick on this debate, no matter how unfair it is.
“LOL DUDE” don’t defend douche bags. I am a server so I agree restaurants should pay us more.. But what you said is like saying we should have more laws against acting like an asshole. In reality, people should just stop acting like assholes.
The simple solution is for restaurants to just automatically include a 10% tip with any meal that is served to you. If they want to leave more they can, but just make it mandatory. I’m so sick of hear this argument from white and black people. I’ve had several black friends tell me they don’t tip and it’s just something black people do. Maybe the restaurants should do something for their workers and not put it on the customers to make the right choice and pay their fair share. If you are going to pay servers such low salary then you need to enforce tips, bottom line.

One time I confronted a cheap tipper by giving it back to her & saying “put this in the church’s collection plate next week”. I swear to god you have to be the guy that’s stiffed every server that works here at least 3 times. This guy comes in, orders the same thing, sits in the same booth, pulls out his laptop and has some stupid internet meme as his wallpaper. My mom works with me, and last week he took the survey on his receipt so he could get a free appetizer and gave her a 3 out of 10. As a person who’s been serving for a couple of years now, you tend to notice things about people, cultures, and there tipping habits.
I agree with the frustrating tone of the story above, but definitely not the racism.
I’ve come to the conclusion that most African Americans do not tip very well or sometimes at all. This is not the part that bothers me the most, the part that does bother me is that African Americans are never satisfied with the dining experience. I’ve worked in multiple restaurants and this seems to be the case. The food is constantly sent back or they do not like something.
I made a hot chocolate on an espresso machine with milk and the gentleman claimed it to be “watery.” That’s just one instance, it’s every time they dine in, with different people. And might I add, it’s not the food.
They also have me run around like a chicken with it’s head cut off. This would not bother me as much if I was compensated for it. I also know that I am a good server.. I am friendly, funny, fast and efficient. I treat everyone equally and try to be as polite and nice as I can to African Americans because not all of them are terrible tippers and maybe I will get what I deserve. I talk to each table the same way. There have been cases when African Americans do tip… well. I had a table of four with an 80 dollar bill, that included the 18 percent gratify since it was after midnight and the person who paid left me an extra 15 dollars.
I have black co-workers that I work with who also know the ongoing issue. Since I am fairly new in this job, all the servers try to give me their African American tables. It gets frustrating when no one, not even any of the black servers want to wait on the black tables.
I hate saying it out loud, it feels wrong and racist and it even feels bad when you’re going up to the table because you know the ending.
I have talked to lots of different people who have all these different theories as to why. There’s one like this, the majority of servers are white and have people in their family who are servers so they have been taught to tip. I’ve noticed that African Americans will work hourly jobs over service jobs and that all my cooks will be African American while the majority of servers white. There’s the theory of it going back to the Civil Rights movement, because before 1965 African Americans and Caucasians where not allowed in the same dining place together. Black people were not ahead in income then and in there communities, they tipped less because they made less and that was acceptable and it has carried over from generation to generation.
There’s also the simple answer which is some people really DON’T KNOW that it’s 20 percent or how to do the percentage. When I worked at a Steakhouse, the bill would be 90 dollars and an African American would tip me 5 and come up and give it to me and thank me so much for the good service, as though 5 was a lot or what it should be.
This is serious problem though. It can make someone a little prejudicial and cause them to stereotype but the racism is over the top. We all stereotype from time to time and they are half truths.
I’ve never actually asked a person what was wrong with the service, that’s pretty bold. I avoid confrontation at all costs.
No one ever really talks about this issue, like in the media or anything. I think it should be addressed. Maybe it would help if people understood how hard serving really is and that people live off tips. Just a thought though.

I grew up in a small farm town and was always appalled by people who made racist remarks. I always thought that I was ‘better than that’. Recently, I moved to Cincinnati and have changed my views altogether. I’m not sorry to say that all it takes is a little exposure. It’s not all of the black community that behaves this way, but it’s definitely most.

I had a black lady leave me $15 on a $39 ticket. She wrote on the comment card that I was a superb server and that she would be back just because of me. So it’s not really a blanket statement that black people don’t tip. Really it should be “most black people generally don’t tip.” Most of the time, yeah, I’ll get stiffed, or get a $1 tip on a $50 ticket, but there have also been several times where I’ve been very surprised with 30% plus tips.
I doubt anyone believe no black person ever tips….ever. That’s ridiculous. It’s a generalization. This site provides a forum to discuss why or why not this is true. Thanks for contributing.

I totally agree with the main posting. I was a server for 10 years all over the country. No matter where you go it’s always the same. Black women & men alike, DO NOT TIP. Now, I have been shocked maybe a couple times when they tip 15% but other than that, us servers are lucky to get a dime. And there is NOTHING racist about it. It’s just the facts. My best friend and co-server at our restaurant is black and even she would dread the angry, overweight black women waddling in and giving everyone the stank-face for no reason. I am guessing that you would have hatred towards someone that treated you like their slave, showed absolutely no appreciation for u going out of your way, left no gratuity, and then threatened you when confronted by their unacceptable behavior. Anyway, I can also be mature enough to agree with your actions. You had every right to be upset. Here is something to take into consideration. They were just FAT, GHETTO BITCHES. Ghetto has NO color. My most embarrassing experience in a dining establishment materialized courtesy of TWO NON-BLACK Ghetto bitches. I actually cursed them out after their actions.
The waiter was new and he was GOOD. His mistake? Waiting on our table. He informed us that there were NO MUSHROOMS available before anyone said anything. Of course these bitches decided that they wanted stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. So they honed in on him about it. I told them that they acted like he was responsible for growing the damn mushrooms. He was trying to avoid conflict by INFORMING YOU ASSHOLES ahead of time!
Last but not least, these greedy cows decided they wanted to take their left overs to go. Somehow they FORGOT their food and left the establishment. Almost 90 mins later they realize they forgot the food, returned to the establishment, and became ANGERED because the staff threw the food away. They truly showed their fat asses then. Complaining to the MGR about the waiter and the service rendered. Once I got the MOOSES outside, I told them that they were wrong as hell. After 90 mins, who the hell was going to think you would return? I literally walked back into the place, found the MGR and defended the waiter. I tipped the waiter 30.00 dollars in front of the MGR.
Back to my point. The bitches you dealt with were just some big fat UNHAPPY BITCHES who are truly unhappy with themselves. They spread their vile and venom no matter where they go. NOTHING can satisfy them. It just so happens that FAT GHETTO bitches can come in any color.
