I have waited on a lot of assholes in my time but todays experience topped them all. So around 1 pm today lunch at the restaurant I work at was starting to die down. I only had two other tables when three big fat ghetto women walked in and went to sit on the patio. I could tell by taking one look at them they were gonna be assholes and not tip shit but I made it a point (like I always do) to give them exceptional service so that they could not justify their cheapness.
A lot of the waitresses I work with expect black people to tip like shit so they don’t go out of their way to give them good service. Where is I have had the same experiences but make it a point to try to kill them with kindness, because EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE they will surprise you. Anyway…back to the story. So as usual they could not be satisfied with anything. The coke was flat…which it wasn’t…the catfish was not good…when is catfish ever good?? But here is an idea stop ordering fried food you fat bitch. (Too bad we don’t have watermelon to serve) I had my manager comp their food and cook them new fish…got them a new drink…blah blah blah. All the while being EXTREMELY nice and polite. Honestly if I was a bitch I would admit it.
So, to get to the point, they left after paying with a 100 bill and left ZERO tip. I guess I was having a shitty day and was fed up because something came over me that I could not control. I RAN outside and walked up to their big nice truck and said (very nicely) “Excuse me ladies can I ask you, was there anything wrong with your service today.” One big fat bitch said “Yes there was as a matter of fact”. I said “and what was that?” she said “everything” I said “I don’t think anything was wrong with your service, I think you are just to cheap to tip and if you can’t afford to tip or don’t want to then you should stay home” She said “Fuck you Bitch I will come back tomorrow and the day after that and NEVER tip” I said “No you will not, you will not come back here again” She said “FUCK you bitch” I said “NO FUCK YOU BITCH” and I turned and went back inside. I knew they were coming right behind me.
By this time I was so mad I was shaking…not to mention I thought I may get shanked any second. Of course they come in screaming so loud crazy like it becomes a blur. I went and got our GM and told him the story as fast as I could as he ran to the front. They continued to yell and curse and say they were gonna beat my ass until he made them leave. He gave them the regional managers name and email and told them to get out before he called the cops. The owners were notified and I told them the exact recap of what happened and they totally had my back. They said to not allow those women back in the restaurant. They also told me not to follow people in the parking lot and confront them about not tipping.
I knew I shouldn’t do it when I did it but in that moment I didn’t care. They think because they are big, black, mean bitches. that little white girls wont call them out because we are scared. I say FUCK THAT. I very well could have gotten beaten up, shot, stabbed and who knows they still may come back to get me. But I felt very proud of myself for not letting them intimidate me with their ugly ghettoness! Fuck them.

I give better service to black people because if the tiniest thing goes wrong its going to cause even more issues. I get them their paper napkins (nakkkins), their extra ranch and bbq sauce (without them asking), their hot water to wash their own silverware and ill stop there but theyre so predictable. I know Im not gonna get tipped but the objective is to make my life easier in the long run. This only goes for the obvious retarded ghetto ones that make themselves perfectly noticable from the first stupid mumbled words out of their mouths. I can differenciate between blacks who are gonna give me issues from ones who are going to be easy to wait on (and tip) from the second they respond to my greeting. Call it racist it doesnt bother me because its natural to respond negatively (if giving better service is racist) to something thats been a negative experience 99% of the time in the past. The only thing worse that being sat with 5 blacks is being sat with 4 because at least we can grat 5 or more but its definitely still not worth it.
To the poster of the story: Like you, I’m a small white woman (and I used to be a waitress). I say good for you. I’ve found over time that bullying people like you encountered are almost always cowards and will often back down when confronted (this is even more true when they aren’t in a group). Confrontational black people especially have gotten so used to non-blacks (and civilized blacks) just letting them have their way that it’s a shock when it doesn’t happen. If more people would stand up to them, eventually society would change. But there is always a risk involved, and also some people don’t know how to react to people like that and don’t want to cause a scene, so it may be awhile before there is collective resistance.

I’m a pretty big guy, street smart and trained to defend and protect myself. I probably would not have the degree of fear or apprehension that someone who isn’t street savvy or trained would. Then again, each situation that presents itself is unique. Our natural survival instincts would lead us to be suspicious of anyone we don’t know at that hour. Additionally, at my ripe old age, I would have no reason to be out that late, lest I suffer the wrath of my wife, lol.
Over all, aside from the above scenario, I would treat each person as an individual UNTIL proven otherwise If I worked as a server. I know what it’s like to be judged before given a chance and it’s not pleasant.
I don’t work in the food-service industry, so I would be remiss and insincere in saying I wouldn’t feel the same as you and others here if burned and mistreated by a particular group time after time. I also concede that I was premature in my judgement of Kelly as I really don’t know what you encounter daily and personally in your line of work, aside from personal observation. Experience and observation are two totally different and distinct elements.

When people come to a restaurant INTENDING to complain about the food after half eating it just to get more food, then leave no tip, etc; this is no different from low level mafia shaking businesses down for ‘protection’.
Different procedure — same basic premise.
Money is money. If I get a tip, I’m thankful for it. The most expensive thing on our menu is around $14 plus tax. The cheapest is $1.49 plus tax for a side of vegetables. (And yes, I’ve had people come in and order water and one side of vegetables) But the point is, with such low tickets, I take what I can get. I treat everyone the same. Does it suck when I get stiffed? You bet it does. Do I complain? Hell yes. Do I give them lousy service next time around? Nope. I have a job to do and I do it. It’s so damn hard to swallow my pride, but I do it, because I put myself in their shoes. How would you feel if people judged you the second you walked in the door? It sucks, believe me I know. Do black people tip well? Not usually but you know what? That $2 they left me between 4 people is $2 more than I would have had if I had stereotyped them and gave them shitty service. As someone who’s waited tables for 40+ hours a week for over a year and a half, I know the frustration. But that doesn’t make it okay to stereotype. I’m guilty of it myself, I’ve totally stereotyped black people when they walk in the door, I think to myself, “Crap, they’re going to not tip, or not tip well…” I wish I could say I was wrong, but I usually end up getting a bad tip. But, at least I know I did the best I could by giving them excellent service. I don’t know, I understand people are angry, but it’s getting kinda ridiculous. A dollar’s a dollar, you can take it or leave it.

Okay, Random person chiming in, and I would like to say that this site is great.
I am an experienced server who has had much exposure to diverse communities if you will… There are actual scientific studies of white infants and their behavior amongst black people. Apparently, white babies are racist because they tend to feel uncomfortable around someone different from themselves, just like you don’t see alligators helping bears catch salmon.
A small white girl, I have certainly been intimidated by black men and women for no particular reason, though I have have made some true friends that are black. I think it is natural to feel a bit uncomfortable around others of a different race whether they are black or Indian or Mexican, they still come from a completely different place than you, even if they grew up here.
That being said, I must say that I feel like a complete shit head when I initially make that assumption that they will not tip, then provide great service and get a good tip anyways. Perhaps it is more about the establishment you work in because I am in a 4-star hotel restaurant and I have learned quickly that stereotypes don’t apply here.
Except for middle-aged women. They still don’t tip, Bitches.

I have waited tables, delivered pizzas, newspapers, magazines, etc. I have been close friends and acquaintance to black people. I can tell you as a man approaching 40 with 20+ years of this experience that black people are TERRIBLE customers about 75% of the time. The other 25% are anywhere from amazing to meh. But that 3/4 are just horrible. They demand the royal treatment, and then seem to delight in a switcharoo slave mentality of stiffing you. I’ve seen blacks smirk as I open up the billfold to see NO TIP! They can’t wait for the look on your face when you realize you have served them like a slave for NOTHING. I actually find it more offensive when they tip like $1 per person instead of nothing. A close black friend of mine said it best. “Sheeeiiit. Ni***ers work hard for dey money. The last thing they wonna do is give it up to some cracka.” Nuff said. I will always be a racist because of all the monkey pieces of garbage who stiffed me. I have kids and have taught them to stay away from animalistic jungle people.

I agree with the admin 100% about the experience. I wouldn’t go into a salon and argue with the lady cutting my hair whose had 4 years experience under her belt and I have none. My fiance and I wait tables together, and a few months ago I waited on a black family that I took excellent care of, our manager did random table visits and they complimented my service to him, and gave me no problems at all. They are actually not being needy and rude as hell to me, maybe treating everyone the same will pay off for once!” But, of course I counted my chickens before they hatched, because on a $79.00 check they left a ZERO tip.
The same week, that very black woman came in with just her girl friend, and I alerted my fiance of how she stiffed me on her previous visit, so he did not go out of his way for this cheap ass bitch (Basically, her table was the last on his agenda). I work around just as many black servers, and even THEY would rather not have to wait on black tables. Generally, black women especially, will order the most expensive dishes, drinks, appetizers, dessert, the whole nine yards….they’ll spend 50 on themselves and leave you 1 lonely, crumpled up dollar that has been shoved between the salt and pepper shakers.

I wish I had discovered this site sooner. WHIT, your analogy is skewed concerning those women. NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY would have been able to make them happy or satisfied. I wonder if this waiter/waitress would have done this if the patrons where white? I happened to stumble upon this site when searching for horrible tip stories for a project I am conducting; and, as a black woman, I am highly offended by this websites content regarding black people. I wonder if some of you whom are in the service industry approach a “black table” with the attitude that they aren’t going to tip; therefore, giving piss poor service, then, inevitably getting upset because “they” don’t tip? As a human being, I make it a habit to overtip, and I do it purposefully for several reasons; however, because of this website (and how the attitudes run rampant across the racial board) and its content towards black people in general, I may just think twice about giving you $50 on a $75 check.
As I’ve stated on this site many, many times. I don’t filter much at all. This is somewhat of an open forum for both patrons and service industry workers to talk about the service industry. Some people can’t handle honesty and truth.
As for your habit of tipping so much, I’d assume your servers (and whomever you tip so well) greatly appreciate it. I would also assume this type of gratuity ensures you’re remembered and grants you excellent, more personal, service when you return. Would you agree? If you do, then maybe you can understand why a party of loud, pants-falling-off-the-ass, disrespectful (to their server and other patrons) people will get placed in a certain category by service industry workers as soon as their butts hit the chair.
Here’s a twist on an analogy I’ve used many times; If you frequently order from the same sandwich shop that has two different order takers, and the last 10 times you’ve ordered from Sally, your order was wrong, but the last 10 times you ordered from Bobby, your order was correct, when faced with the option to order from one or the other, whom will you choose? I’m going to assume you’ll order from Bobby. If you can admit that, then maybe you can understand why servers complain about certain demographics of patrons. It’s called experience. I don’t think I’ve ever met a brand new, first-day-on-the-job server, who’s complained about waiting on black people, fat people, church people, etc. Why? Because they haven’t built up the experience.
As for wondering if the server responsible for for this article (Big Fat Ghetto Bitches) would have confronted the people if they weren’t black; she would have. I know her personally. She’s like many other people who wait tables and frequent this site. She gives everyone adequate service but doesn’t stand there and get shit on while she’s at work. Her story of confronting the table of “ghetto” black women is more “shocking” not because of what I believe you think she was doing (being a racist/picking on black people), rather because I think there’s a belief in United States society that white people are afraid of black people.

as a delivery driver i feel your pain. the only thing drivers have to worry about is not getting tipped and getting robbed. pretty much means we worry about black people. none of the drivers i work with or have met have been robbed or shot or killed by anyone besides blacks. i used to have sympathy for blacks but now i feel like they have a large hand in creating racism by being racist and shitty themselves. all the shit white people used to tell me, that i would in turn call them racists for, is true. not with all blacks but with many. ghetto is like white trash but worse. slavery is over and 60% of the country is poor so quit feeling sorry for yourself. No server should ever tolerate harassment. As an attractive male in my college years I too dealt with customers (horny older women) thinking it was okay to joke about nasty stuff and try to touch me on my arms, chest, butt, etc. If a customer does something inappropriate, it’s your right to have them leave or refuse to serve them. You can’t get in trouble by your boss for that.

@Andy – I’ve been a fast food store manager before for several years and whether your little bleeding liberal heart realizes it or not, it’s quite true: blacks act like a stereotype. Yet they seem to not be able to comprehend that when they act like a stereotype, they perpetuate a stereotype!
When blacks are loud, rambunctious, rude, racist (I’ve heard several blacks exclaim they “hate the little white girl behind the counter”) and outright mean, what the other industry people here say is absolutely true.
What your problem seems to be is that a) you lack common sense, b) you seem to be unable to see past the end of your nose and c) you can’t take a hint. The administration on this site has been more than accommodating to your insulting, inane and generally pedantic comments. I bet you think that anyone who doesn’t agree/like Obama is an automatic racist, don’t you?
Sometimes servers practice “Reversed Racism.” It means that we see a table, size them up as shitty tippers or difficult people, and then instead of giving them the shitty service that they more than likely deserve, we do the opposite. We give them stellar service.
We do this for two reasons:
- To make us seem/feel less racist. No one likes to admit that we look at people and judge them based on stereotypes. The truth is that stereotypes exist for a reason. They are based on the hundreds of experiences that happened prior to this one instance. Everyone is so afraid of being labeled a racist or having racist thoughts that they fight against their gut instincts and bend over backwards for people who will never prove them wrong. The outcome will more than likely be the same regardless of the level of service these people receive (either way they are tipping $2 or not at all) but giving them good service makes us feel less racist.
- We want to make sure their actions are not justified. We give them excellent service to prove the point that the problem lies with them and not with us or our serving abilities. This way when they do stiff us or give us a shitty tip, the stereotype is reinforced even more. We know that we did nothing wrong and now we also know that the stereotypes we hold are true regardless of what other people argue.
With that being said, it’s important to note that if the people in this story were white the outcome would probably be the same.
Replace “Big Fat Ghetto Bitches” with “Big Fat White-Trash Whores” and does it really make a big difference?
In case you are wondering: The answer is NO. If three fat, white-trash, women wearing cut offs and wife beaters plopped their fat asses down on the patio they would more than likely be judged in the same manner. The main difference would come from the level of the service they received. The server would have either given them the same level of service as the black women (reverse racism can apply to any negative stereotype really) or given them significantly less attention (because the server doesn’t feel the need to employ reverse racism since the server is the same race and giving them bad service won’t make her seem like a racist). If all the other facts remained the same: service, complaints, and tip; then the end result would be the same.
I don’t think it’s fair to say that all blacks don’t tip. I am black and I always make sure to tip the waiter or waitress at least 15% and if service was really good I tip more, if it was bad I tip less. That’s the way my parents raised me. I think this is a matter of ignorance and immaturity on the customers part. I think it was risky for you to confront them in the parking lot, but I understand why you did it and I’m glad you told those women off.

This behavior is called stereotyping. It’s a form of self-perpetuating generalization of people based on some arbitrary attribute. It starts with casual rationalizations that progress into blatant racism or sexism that is sometimes unrecognized by the perpetrator. This website is instructive because it captures bigotry at an early stage where attributing sterotyped behavior to race is disguised and discussed as some statistical anomaly. Racist thought leads to racist action. For some it’ll be the passive violence of establishing a hate webpage. For others it’ll be the more active violence of tainting food. Or worse. See, you can only look a one. That’s not what anyone is saying. I haven’t made my assumptions about people based on one person or one incident.
There’s a reason why, when I see a person walking up to me at a gas station, I immediately put my hand out in a “stop walking towards me” type motion and say “sorry, can’t help ya.”. It’s not because on person one time asked me for a dollar or change for “_____insert bullshit reason here____”. It’s because it’s happened over and over.
There’s a reason why I can’t stand teenage girls. It’s not because I met one who was annoying. It’s because of the XX amount I’ve ever had any kind of interaction with or observation of, the majority of them act like idiots and are annoying.
There’s a reason why I can accurately assume, regardless of service, a table with a black woman, yapping on her cell phone, cursing, picking at her hair and ordering a “Scraw Berrrry” daiquiri and a black man, with a mouth full of golds, pants falling off his ass, big, fake chain and shiny medallion, and a giant dial on his fake platinum wrist watch are going to tip me $2.00 regardless of the total of their bill or how much they run the hell out of me.
It is interesting that today’s hate speech tends to start with “I’m not racist but…” it’s a form of self delusion to attempt to rationalize bigotry. As a self check, I challenge folks to
1) tell your customers about your theory that “black people don’t tip”; tell your boss that you think customers are disgusting. Perhaps this job is not for you.
2) go to a racist website and try to distinguish your logic from the logic employed on KKK and neo-Nazi websites.
3) imagine a teacher who secretly had a website that categorized your kid’s scholastic performance with race or religious affiliation instead of other measures (I.e. teacher competence etc…). Would you trust that teacher with your kid?
Racism is a form of mental disease…and I believe it’s curable.
I can imagine a teacher telling me most of X demographic can’t perform at Y’s level. What’s odd about that? You have a real problem with truth. You just want to blanket everything that makes you sad with racism, bigotry, etc.
For instance. X is taking a graphic design and video editing courses but doesn’t own a computer or laptop of his own. Y is taking the same courses and has always owned a modern computing device. X likely won’t get the grades or gain the level of expertise that Y will.
This is sad. Please don’t paint all people of a certain race with the same brush. Deal with people as individuals. These were personalities who happen to have brown or black skin. If I should appear in your restaurant don’t assume anything, because I can pick up the vibes. If I smell racism I will leave. I wouldn’t want your food. Give each person a chance to be him or herself. Some times I might give a big tip, or sometimes I might give a little one, it depends on the finances. If I was rich and you’re a friendly person and don’t pre-assume things, who knows you may be tipped enough to quit the restaurant job. Just think Oprah might show up one day in a disguise. So, don’t be mad at entire race, see the person and the personality. That’s so unfair, its even unfair to the unborn and all the little babies. I wouldn’t want them to enter this world and people assume that they’re going to do this or that, or not do this or that. Can you imagine looking at them and thinking, they are going to be like some loud, unappreciative people you encountered……We have to see people, not races or ethnicity. If there is a problem….talk about it, but mentioning race isn’t necessary.
Certain people are all lumped in together. If you come in to a restaurant with curlers in your hair, house slippers, 4 loud kids and a shit look on your face while you blab on your cell phone……you’re going to “smell” the disgust by your serer because you’re acting like a disgusting person who is almost guaranteed not to tip REGARDLESS of the level of service you receive.

I agree that everyone should have to work in the service industry. And those that have/do and still act and tip this way need to have the shit beat out of them. Just saying. It’s something you become pretty passionate about when you can’t pay your bills because of people like that.
It seriously isn’t racist; it’s true. I’ve worked in restaurants for years and servers automatically groan every time black people sit down in our section. That’s not our fault. It’s THEIR fault. They usually complain to try and get free food and then leave little or no tip on top of everything else. How are they not embarrassed?? I’m not a racist person, but I can’t help but be furious every time. This is how I earn my living. The way I see it, there’s usually a reason for stereotypes. For those that are guilty of treating servers this way, if you don’t want to be called names and regarded as lesser people, learn how to function in society. Same with rednecks. They’re usually a bit nicer, but their compliments don’t pay my rent. I don’t know how I keep myself from saying something like “There’s a fucking McDonald’s right down the street. Not only did you waste my time, but you wasted my space since someone could have been at this table that isn’t trash.” It’s pretty frustrating.
I probably wouldn’t have done that, but it was ballsy.
Admin: Good point about servers not really being compensated enough for the amount of emotional abuse they sustain. But, at the same time, a lot of restaurants have a “the customer is always right” type of mentality that always favors the customer in any controversial situation and rarely stand behind their servers (this is obviously an exception). What can one do, aside from doing their best to provide great service to every table regardless of stereotypes, when a table is this rude or worse/downright unpleasant to you? (Not assuming you’ve followed them into a parking lot). We’re just expected to smile and take it, do whatever to fix it. If the table is ridiculous to you, however, is there any way for servers to keep their dignity when being abused for no reason?

It is so true that black people do not tip no matter how nice you are to them. I have worked in restaurants before and the only thing they taught me was to despise minorities, especially blacks.

First of all, there’s a difference between being racist and what happened here…the girl said that she gave them good service and they still stiffed her. So her going out there and telling them it was wrong to not tip was not racist, it was legitimate. It would have been racist had she given them poor service on the assumption that they wouldn’t tip because they were black (and by the way that assumption is a fair one. Ask any server, at any restaurant, anywhere and they will tell you black people don’t tip. Hell google it, you get a thousand search findings, some from sociologists who talk about it.)
Andy as far as calling it poor customer service, once again she GAVE THEM GOOD SERVICE that was the whole point. Plus the place re cooked their food and so really might have LOST MONEY on them coming in there. People aren’t in business to appease such customers. No one goes into business saying I”m going to kiss ass to every person who comes in here no matter how angry they make my employees or how much of my product they eat and refuse to pay for. You said that as a waitress or waiter she was wrong on so many levels…on what level? she gave them good service they didn’t pay her. If you were to higher a painter, and he painted the house (and did a good job) and you didn’t pay him, what do you think would happen? Insert that in any job and maybe you get the idea.

It seems to me that restaurants need more paying customers not less. Wait staff need the right temperament to create an experience that causes customers to return.
The restaurant paid the employee $2.13/hour. They didn’t exactly have a monetary exchange for his services that would prevent him from acting out like this. Andy, try to think about what it’s like to be a server. There are tables that come in and laugh at you while you’re trying to wait on them. These same tables think it’s even funnier, after trying to humiliate you, to leave no tip. I’ve had tables tell me things like, “Well, go get it”. I’m a server;I’m not a dog.
I can totally understand this guy losing it when he went after the jerk. People will come in and try to see how far they can go. Sure, they’re sick. But, even realizing this, sometimes you let your emotions get the best of you because you can only get beaten, verbally, so many times.
As a waitress or waiter you were wrong on so many levels it is amazing that you weren’t fired.

The other i got a similar story happening to me, there were 3 blacks that run me to death making their own lemonade with the water and xtra lemons i gave them. Then complain about the food i made one of them a whole new dish, after all they left me $1.25 tip on of $43 dollar check wtf i hate them!!!!!!!!!!!!!
