I can’t help but notice how many phones get whipped out when it’s time to pay for the check. The amount of people, both young and old, who can’t figure out what 15 or 20 percent is really blows my mind. It also makes me wonder why people need an app to tell them how much to tip.
For me, I like to tip a minimum of 10% of the bill for bad service. Seriously, the service has to be REALLY bad for me to tip 10%. If the service is fine, I’ll leave 20%. Both of these numbers are really easy to figure out.
If my bill is $75.00, I simply move the decimal to the left one spot. From there, I either multiply by 1 or 2. Multiplying by 1 means I received poor service and will leave $7.50. Multiplying by 2 mean I will leave $15.00. If I’m feeling really generous, or feel like the server went out of his or her way to make sure I had a special meal, I’ll just tack on some money to the 20%.
Why is it so hard for people to figure out how much to leave for a tip? Oh, and don’t get me started on people who can’t figure out how to split their own bill.
